Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! You made it to Japan. You learned to speak Japanese. You made a lot of friends there. Now one of them is getting married, and she asked you to give one of the traditional speeches at her wedding. OH, THE HORROR! At a traditional, formal, Japanese wedding, you must stand up in front of hundreds of people and give a speech, in Japanese, no less. So you confide in your friend, the sister of the bride, that you’re terrified of giving speeches in any language, but in Japanese! You may go blind from the tension of public speaking in Japanese. Come to think of it, that won’t help. Blind people can give speeches just as well as anyone else. Your friend comforts you and helps you with the problem. She explains the format of the ceremony and the structure of the speech, and she promises to help you write your speech in proper Japanese fashion. She’ll even help you to practice - and she says it all start with JapanesePod101.com. Now that’s what good friends are for.

Learning Japanese with JapanesePod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Japanese! This Japanese lesson presents a special, formalistic speech you just might be called upon to give if you make really good friends in Japan. Japanese wedding speeches are a tradition, and each Japanese wedding speech should follow a special pattern and grammar. That’s why you come to us at JapanesePod101.com. You won’t find this good stuff anywhere else. Visit us at JapanesePod101.com where you will find many more fantastic Japanese lessons and learning resources! Leave us a message while you are there!

That was a great lesson in that there was quite a lot of stuff which I couldn’t understand when I heard the dialogue for the first time. 勉強になってありがとうございます。

Just a suggestion but it would be nice if you could do a one or two upper intermediate ‘news’ lessons. I watch the news a couple of times a day and while my listening has improved a lot I often get stuck on new vocabularly and the polite speech throws me off occasionally too.

One which covers financial issues or police investigations would be great as such stories seem to pop up more than most. A healthy list of vocab to go with it in the pdf would be really valuable too. Anyway, just a suggestion. Back to reviewing this week’s lesson.

Hmmm don’t you think that the sentences that are translated are too long? My English is too poor to say it properly. :???: I mean that when you try to remember whole part you forget the beginning when the translation finally comes in. Maybe it’s just because my level is too low for this…

Sivasakthivelさん,
どういたしまして!

Sindyさん,
What problem are you having posting? If you let us know the details perhaps we can fix it!

Richard in Ishigakiさん,
I think some news lessons would be a good idea! A lot of the same vocabulary shows up in the news, so it might be really helpful to introduce those. Thank you for the suggestion

andyさん,
Thank YOU!

Sylwekさん,
Thank you for the feedback!! We’ll look into it

About 14 or 15 years ago I was asked to give a talk at the wedding (held in Beppu) of a younger fellow working under me. I worked very hard at the time to string some Japanese sentences together, but I see now that I left out all the most important phrases. On the bright side, I was never asked to give such a talk again . . .

To ナオミ先生、ナツコ先生 and Anthony and to the JPOD 101 staff,

I’ve been listening to JPod lessons since January and it’s really helped my Japanese and my attitude towards studying. I’m extremely shy and not so confident in my Japanese abilities so I tend to avoid speaking in Japanese in front of other people, if that makes any sense… but listening to both the conversation part of the lesson and to the interaction between the senseis somehow has made me more comfortable and confident…so thank you guys so much! you make learning fun and take a lot of the pressure that comes from trying to learn a foreign language.

本当にどうもありがとうございました。日本語が上手になるように頑張ります。これからも、よろしくお願いします。

Bob1さん,
Did you write your speech all by yourself? I’m sure they were impressed with what you put together!!

marikitさん,
Thank you so much for your nice comment!! We’re really glad to hear that the lessons have given you more confidence when it comes to Japanese  It sounds like you are at a very high level, so don’t be afraid to get out there and use your Japanese! You’ll really impress people!
