Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com. Each year in early February, after the Lunar New Year, there is a Japanese tradition to hurl beans at evil spirits to drive them away. It is a fun festival. Well actually, it all depends on what side of the bean you’re on. Before you throw you’re next bean, please watch this touching piece. It may change your outlook on the so-called fun festival.
Please see our previous lesson Japanese Culture Lesson #4 for more details about Setsubun.
p.s. No monsters we’re actually hurt filming this.
p.p.s This slightly parodies

I’m sorry, but I did throwing beans saying “oni wa soto!!” last night!
And then I ate as many beans as my age!! That is the most favorite part of “Setsubun” because I love beans.
