Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! Here at JapanesePod101.com, we’ve discovered the easiest way for you to learn Japanese vocabulary words. Put us to the test with this video tutorial designed to teach you about something that you can’t live without.
In this Japanese video tutorial, you’ll learn the words for all sorts of fruits. They’re presented so that you’re sure to learn: hear a native speaker repeat the word three times, fast, slow, then fast. The video also shows the Japanese characters for each fruit, and there’s a fun self-test at the end to see just how much you learned.

Hey Mina-san,
Don’t you just love fruit? What’s your favorite fruit? Which Japanese fruit word did you like? Be sure to use it in a sentence in your comment!

すいかは私の大好きです。でも食べ過ぎるとちょっと病気に成るので困るなあ。

一番好きな果物がさんくらんぼですが、よく高すぎるのでよく食べません。苺がもっと安いだからさくらんぼ代わりに苺を食べている。おいしいですね!
Sunday at 8:49 pm
私は苺が一番好きです。
Is it just me, or does the kanji for strawberry look like mother with a hat on?
Sunday at 10:40 pm
It’s mama with grass on the head.
That means strawberry is mama’s plant.

仁居流 san> スイカは私の好きな果物です or 私はスイカが大好きです。 日本ではスイカと天ぷらを一緒に食べてはいけないと言われています。 It is said that you are not to eat watermelon after eating Tenpura.
Bonnie san> It seems strawberries are cheaper than strawberries in Japan
私は大きいチェリー(さくらんぼ)が好きです。
spidey san,Alain san> 苺 kanji top is “草かんむり” which is used in kanjis that are related to nature/plants etc. Mother of fruit, sounds like
Charity san> I think your name should used in some sort of fruit, it’s very cute
Gabe san> 私はスイカとマンゴーとメロンが大好きです。しかし(でも)私は全てのフルーツを愛しています。(全てのフルーツが大好きです)

Mina-san,
Sorry if this doesn’t relate to fruit exactly…..But everyone seems to have some kind of software where they can type out the sentences in kana; i’ve tried downloading some programs before for microsoft word but none work (and translators aren’t usually that accurate). So can anyone please help me find a program i can use? I’m not really that tech-savvy
Any help would be much appreciated

Naomi-san,
You need what’s called an ‘IME’ installed to be able to type Japanese characters. I don’t know which operating system you are using, but this guide should be useful if you are running Windows. Just follow the instructions for the version you are using.
http://www.declan-software.com/japanese_ime/
I hope that helps.

to Naomi:
It depends on what system you have, you don’t really need to install any extra software. if you have windows vista go to regional and language options in your control panel. then click on the tab that reads keyboards and languages, and then click on change keyboard. under the general tab click add and choose japanese. if you have Mac os x, go to system preferences and click on international, then click on the input menu tab, there check the box that says kotoeri. if this doesn’t help just type in “japanese” in the internal computer help, and that should direct you in the right direction.

Jkid-san,
That site really helped a lot….though it was funny; as i was typing the rest of this message in English i forgot to switch it back, and all these random characters kept appearing until i realized it. Again, i’m not so good with technology sometimes
ありがとございます。 Thankyou soooooooooooooo much
Again, thanks!

(also thankyou, Gabe-san; that’s pretty much what i did but i happened to read the other post first)
