Hi Naomi先生, in the dialogue: 「近くに、病院、ありますか。」 why is there no が before ありますか?
Thanks Liam.

Thank you very much for putting a great question. Since it’s spoken, I dropped ga on purpose. The sentence pattern “Chikaku ni — ga arimasu ka.” will be introduced in lesson 32.

日本の住所はややこしいですね!And I think it’s even more confusing because there are businesses on upstair floors or in the basement. Once you finally have located the right building, you might still be looking for the right place for quite some time ( I remember going round and round a street block looking for the post office, which actually was on the 5th floor of the first building J had tried…)

Hello in Mandarin: 你好, short and sweet.
I am really pleased that I made the “mistake” to just take a look here, before returning to ChinesePod.com. I hadn’t been here for over a year or perhaps two. And just wanted to look and see what difference there might be between the two “systems” and I ended up with a subscription to this place too! Fun.
My main focus will be on Mandarin studies, but I intend to spend a little time here as often as I can. I also had in mind making some Kanji lessons based on lessons released here, but we’ll see about that. First I would like to get some feedback to see if there is a “market” for this kind of stuff (since I don’t want to spend time doing stuff nobody wants).
I wrote the first and only lesson in a single session so it’s kinda long winded as an overall introduction, but I found that necessary. It’s basically a modified version of the (holy) Heisig system of learning and remembering Kanji. Since I learned all the 2042 Kanji in his book, I have come to the conclusion that it is NOT necessary to strictly follow his approach: learn all these Kanji and THEN start to study Japanese for real (speaking, reading and writing).

Just thought I should inform ……
BTW in the no-flatter-but-truth-dpt: Naomi is one of my favorite names. It is said to be a name with Hebrew/Biblical roots, but I actually think it could be an African name too. Surely it is also a genuine Japanese name, not imported? What Kanji?

naomi-sensei,
first of all, in your conversations with eric-san you respond a lot with japanese and then quickly translate. i want to say that i really appreciate this. being a true noob its nice to gain some additional common expressions. now, in this cast you use an expression i always wanted to know about. mochiron…is this the most common way to say ‘of course’? in some shows i watch, i hear something like ‘datte’ but have never really looked it up so maybe it shouldn’t be used for ‘of course’.
sorry for the lack of kana everyone, i don’t have proper input on this comp yet.

Not be sorry, ggenglish! This 漢字汉字-guy is very happy without kana
Don’t know what it is, but the kana slips away from the EASE part of my memory just when I look away for a minute。 The worst part of the Japanese written language, for me, is a page of nothing but hiragana!!! Yikes!
Hiragana is a script very alien from both Kanji and Katakana, that’s is: In Look and Feel. It’s almost impossible for me to keep the flow of writing when adding hiragana, since I have change “style” of movements. Just an observation before breakfast.
