Jessiさん、

どうぞ　宜しく　お願いします。

However, I may be flying under false colors as I have opted to apply extremely literal definitions to these concepts:

1. 出身： I have decided applies to where I currently live.
2. 故郷： I have decided applies to place of birth. Lompoc is close.

実は、I only lived in Lompoc for about 18 months before going to Orlando, FL then Travis AFB (Fairfield, CA) followed by Yokota AB (東京都　の　福生市）and other places besides.

どう、思いますか。

Really, I am interested in your thoughts and/or what the collective thoughts might be as they apply to someone who has rarely lived in any one place more than six years and has family scattered to the four winds (Northern, Central, and Southern California, Hawaii, as well as other states...) - as the situation might be seen by a Japanese person. Just make a decision? OK, done.

From what I recall, moving about on an inter-regional basis (1970s perspective of a 5-11 year-old at the time) pretty much wasn't done. Inter-prefectural moving within the same region (Kanagawa-ken to Tokyo or Chiba-ken to Tokyo) seemed within the norm, however (as well as anything shorter). It may be that my read on the situation was inaccurate...

You may also have noted the use of 大軍。 I am interested in your opinion of how to handle discussing employment, as I am in the US Army and currently serve in the headquarters staff (HQDA) here in Washington, DC. As I see it, 軍 applies to a field formation like 1st Army (US), 3d Army (US), etc. The only comparable organization that the Japanese have ever had was the pre-WWII Imperial Army - 皇軍. I can't use that...

Great lesson! I think I've spotted a tiny mistake in the pdf: in the countries list, for Egypt, "Egyptian" is translated as "エジプト". Shouldn't it rather be "エジプト人"?

I'd like to congratulate jPod on its continued improvements to the Learning Centre. The Expansion Audio was particularly good in this lesson. It's great to hear short, sharp sentences using the Vocab words. Any chance of having these "examples" downloadable like the Review files to hear over and over? I reckon the Review files when they started way back when were the best thing that jPod ever did. it's almost impossible to remember a new word unless you hear it over and over and over and over!
