chance of winning→ 絶体絶命＜Do or die という感じですね。

:dogeza:

We often hear 単刀直入 in a daily conversation but not 馬耳東風 so much....It depends on who you are talking to and the situations you are in. Yojijukugo is more often used in speech or formal situations than daily conversations. I need to learn more Yojijukugo from this lesson too!

Spidey san>

My friend didn't know a couple I used either, including 馬耳東風, which I thought would be a useful one. I get the impression that a lot of these aren't in everyday use, at least in casual conversation.

I did see 単刀直入 in a semiformal situation. I used it myself to explain some English phrase, and I think my friend said something like あっ、よく知ってるね. Seems like if you used a lot of these you'd come across a bit uptight.
