I get the impression that a lot of these aren't in everyday use, at least in casual conversation. I did see 単刀直入 in a semiformal situation. I used it myself to explain some English phrase, and I think my friend said something like あっ、よく知ってるね. Seems like if you used a lot of these you'd come across a bit uptight.
