Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! Tired of typical pets? Ready for something from the National Geographic channel?
In this lesson, we’ll introduce you to the Japanese for some unusual pets, while at the same time covering the Japanese words for some of the more standard stock. We’ll also talk about popular pets here in Japan, as we’re talking about pets in Japanese. The focus of this lesson is the Japanese grammar point koto ni suru to decide something.

金魚を三匹飼っていましたが去年亡くなっていました…現在何も飼っていません。
動物が大好きで猫とか飼いたいですけど、本当に忙しくて時間があまりないからペットがいたら寂しくなってあまり良くないと思います。

I heard a few years ago, a lady in Osaka had a pet wallaby which escaped. Apparently the surprised locals had a very hard time catching the wallaby as it hopped down the streets of Osaka!

このlessonのあと ペートについておはなしが覚えられました。米国の選挙の候補者のオバマのことです。この候補者の支持者の中にオウムがいっていつもこんなに言うといわれています:Obama,Yes We can! Obama Yes We can.面白くないですか?わたしがこのはなしをラジオから初めて聞いたときとってもおもしろいとおもいました。そのオウムはたぶん変わったペートかもしれません。

This lesson has really come in handy for me. My in-laws came over to Australia and when I took them to the local animal sanctuary, because of this lesson I was able to tell them which snakes in the park were poisonous and which were not. There were scrub turkeys (wild turkeys) everywhere and I knew the words for this.
I never thought I’d use some of these words in this lesson but they’ve come in really handy, thanks again JPod! !
