They’re baaaaaack!

Kaidan!

It’s day two of O-Bon.
It’s the time when the dead walk again in Japan.
And we’re continuing the Edo Period tradition of telling kaidan (ghost stories) during this haunted season to kill time.

We’re taking a break from studying Japanese grammar, so kick back and enjoy this ancient Japanese Tradition.

These are interesting for sure, but I think they need to be proper lessons. There were many, many words which I didn’t know, and there was no explanation of what they all meant.

怖い

>>There were many, many words

yes, so if this became a lesson, the running time would probably be way over an hour. just too time consuming and the final product would probably be boring. so they’re just for enjoyment for the o-bon holiday.

but that said, the vocab IS included in the pdf and learning center

MORE scary????
*gulp*

rigo says:

Wow this story was scary , but
i couldnt stop listening

ジャービジ says:

These definitely seem a bit tougher than last year; my lack of listening comprehension was the scariest part for me   I’ll be sure to check out the transcripts :hachimaki:

Phil says:

Thanks Marky, so I should check the PDF eh? :) I’m doing that now but I couldn’t before I just had my iPhone with me. How about going over the vocab only in review track?

maxiewawa says:

Three cheers for the full transcript (kanji and kana) in the lyrics section of the mp3. I find wading through the kana-only transcripts that are usually in the lyrics difficult.

I think that if you took out the English translation you might even be able to sell this to native speakers!

philさん、that’s an interesting idea. maybe we can start that with the halloween kaidan! :hachimaki:

but, man… that’ll be a looooooong review track. just to give you an idea of how much goes into these, today’s kaidan has 108 individual lines in the line-by-line audio of the learning center. this actually breaks the record for having the longest line-by-line to date. granted, it’s a bit excessive. lol.
but i’m not opposed to the idea of making review tracks for future kaidan.

glad everyone is enjoying these!
since they were so successful last year, we wanted to raise the bar a little bit this time around.

maxiewawaさん、it’s interesting you say that. i played them for a few of my japanese friends and one made turn it off because it was too much for her. lol. the others wanted copies to show their friends (i encouraged them to sign up for a 7 day trial, lol).

ジャービジさん、hahahahaha, i’m right there with you, bro. it’s pretty hardcore japanese.

if you listen repeatedly, it starts to sink in pretty quickly, tho. while making them, of course i had to listen again and again and again and again, pretty soon, i could follow it without the script.

momoeさん、
ヤバス、マジで。
テラこわす!マジで。

markystar says:

oh, philさん、btw - (when it’s not too busy crashing) my iphone displays the pdf for this lesson beautifully (all 16 pages of it - lol).
not sure if you tried that or not, but thought i’d mention it for anyone interested in browsing the pdf on their mobile. :nihon:

Phil says:

You can get PDFs onto an iPhone? My itunes ignores the JPod PDFs when syncing entirely!

avatar
JapanesePod101.com says:

i haven’t tried dragging them onto the iphone, but you can open them directly from the site. just click the pdf link and it opens up.

pretty cool!!

So the other guy saw something his friends couldn’t see (trying to prove them wrong) and then it was so bad it sent him into shock so he couldn’t talk for 12 years and his parents sued the guy for taking him into his haunted appartment? Woahhhh! Sounds like what happened on “The Last Call Three”!
