I love to learn Japanese. Naomi-sensei and 亀井-san, I am also not very good at golf.

ゴルフはゲラネダにポピュラーではありません、でもアメリカにポピュラーですよ（アメレカは私の出身です）。
Golf isn’t popular in Grenada, but it is in America (which is where I’m from).

I think that is right for “I forgot that golf may only be a noun,” unlike English where it may be both a verb and noun.

→ This の is called nominalizer in Japanese grammar term. It’s like English gerund “-ing”.
As you may have already realized, “Verb(dictionary)＋no” change the verb into a noun.

Meaning wise, there’s no difference.
However [verb] のです or [verb] んです is used when the speaker’s explaining something, so when the speaker is answering a question such as “where are you going?”, the speaker tend to say アメリカに行くんです or アメリカに行くのです。 . (1st sentence　アメリカに行きます is still OK as an answer though. )

Oh, verb+の is a gerund? I’ve seen this pattern a few times before and never quite understood it. Thanks for this lesson!

For example, when you answer a who or what question, you’ll use が in place of は.

Q:明日、誰がここにきますか。
A:太郎が来ます。（×太郎は来ます。）

Q:きょうは、何が安いですか。
A:くだものが安いです。（×くだものは安いです。）
