As the Lesson Notes mentioned, kke is used when you are asking a question to confirm something you can't recall. On the other hand, wasuremashtia means "I forgot." "I cannot remember." ex) Hon o wasuremashita. "I forgot the book." *saying to other people Hon o motte kimashitakke. "Did I bring the book?" *talking to himself Hon wa doko datta kke.
