「うまかった」とは、おいしかった。(It was delicious)という意味です。でも日本語では、うまかった、を漢字にして、「馬勝った」(The horse won)というふうにし、それに加えて「牛負けた」(The cow lost)と冗談で言う人がいます。
友達は、その「うまかった」の部分を、「馬買った」(I bought a horse)と勘違いしたんですね。そして、「うまかった」のあとで、「牛売った」(I sold a cow)と言ったんですね。

So in Japanese people make jokes about the phrase “Umakatta” which is a boyish way to say “Oishikatta” meaning, “the meal was delicious”.
Uma=horse=馬
Katta= (Past tense of the verb Katsu=to win) won=勝った

So it could mean, the horse won.
Some people add
Ushi=cow=牛
Maketa =(Past tense of the verb Makeru=to lose) lost=負けた

but my friend misunderstood the kanji for Katta.
He thought Katta= (Past tense of the verb Kau=to buy)bought=買った
so instead of adding the cow lost, he put
Ushi=cow=牛
Utta=sold=売った

thought it was pretty creative

どうして半分お土産を漢字で書いて半分平仮名で書きましたか?

沖縄の代表的な「おみやげ」だけ、ひらがななんですよね。では、どうして美樹さんはこれだけひらがなを使ったのか？うーん、理由としては、

１）わざとではなく、たまたま使ってしまった。
２）ひらがなの方がやわらかい感じがします。そして、美樹さんは「沖縄の」おみやげということで目立たせたかったからなのではないでしょうか。（Hiragana has an impression that gives us kind of “soft or gentle”, and Miki wanted to make “沖縄の” おみやげ conspicuous.）
