Where is Rebecca?…I miss her.

watermen says:

Is Narita Kuukou still using such an old fashion computer at the custom?

係員: パスポート、お願いします。
ばかな人:えええ? パシポート?パスポートがありません。だって、私はスパイだよ! :hachimaki: シイイ!
係員:警察 !!! 警察 !!!

プチクレア says:

もちろん成田空港へ行ったことがありますよ !

But contrary go Eric先生, I could never get anyone
from the custom department to speak anything but Japanese. On the other hand, they were always very nice.

Btw, Eric先生はEpod101NewsFlashのEric先生でしょう?

Hi Rhys-san: Yojijukugo and Newbie Lessons Season 4 (this lesson) are new lesson types. You’ll need to create a new iTunes My Feed in order to get them on iTunes. Please don’t hesitate to email us if you have further questions.

Peter-san,

Not a comment on today’s lesson, but on the fact that we are in SEASON 4! What an accomplishment and testimony to the great job you all are doing.

Ganbette!

Abrassart says:

So Rebecca is gone? Well, she could have say goodbye.

avatar
Abrassart says:

btw my gravatar is not showing on the JP101 website anymore. Why?

Peter says:

It is a never ending source of fascination to me that people with the capacity to write kanji should be interested in a newbie series and the first lesson at that.

avatar
Heraldo says:

Peter — it’s always fun to check out what you guys are up to next, especially when it’s a new season premiere. :dogeza:

…though I have to say I’m glad I’ve never gotten a customs official at Narita quite as ominous sounding as the one on the lesson!

Rebekah says:

Hello Minasan! Yes I wont be joining you all for the latest Newbie series
I’ve left Japan for a little while to go and do further study overseas.

Thanks for all your comments and support. Ganbatte kudasai!! (alas no Japanese in this post because I haven’t figured out how to get this computer to type Japanese characters yet)

Good luck with your Japanese studies

Peterさん、yeah, a lot of listeners listen to every level across the board. even if you’re an advanced student, you can also learn things when you review the basics.
it’s all about getting maximum exposure to the language! :kokoro:

Thanks Jpod101, I figured it out and all is well.

Mina-san, have you been to 成田空港?

私は何回も作ったことがあります。

Sean Somers says:

The lesson might’ve covered the fingerprinting and photographing dragnet that foreign nationals must now negotiate in order to enter the country. That’s my recent Narita experience.

avatar
Paul Cabana says:

Loved this lesson, I like shorter lessons where I can get a specific piece of vocab or grammar and repeat it, rather than puzzle my way through a very long conversation where I get lost trying to understand what’s going on.

Thanks everyone at JapanesePod101!

JapanesePod101.com says:

Sean Somersさん、
what is there to “negotiate” about? you just have to do it.
but, well, it’s pretty easy, right? but naomi-sensei who wrote the lesson, will never have to do that since she’s japanese. next time we’ll keep it in mind.

Paul Cabanaさん、
that’s exactly why we started a new newbie series!

Sean Somers says:

Marky,

There’s a tacit political subtext to my little message. Obviously, that won’t make it into the lesson, but I thought it might be interesting for discussion.

Yamato. Yamato. Yamato. :nihon: :nihon: :nihon:

markystar says:

hehehehehe. yeah, i got fingerprinted upon re-entry recently too.

Eric says:

みなさんこんにちは、

It’s an honor to be on board hosting the newbie series. Since I wasn’t caught and deported for smuggling in my pumpkin seeds (joke, joke. don’t call customs), I’ll be with you the rest of the season.

You never know who you’re going to get at the customs/entry dept. It’s a mixed bag. On the other hand, good luck trying to get the ticketing people trying to speak to you in anything but your native language. Back in my eager-student-of-Japanese days, I had whole conversations where I spoke only Japanese and the ticketing agent spoke only English. Neither of us budged.

Yes, I’m the same Eric from the ePod101 News Flash, but over there I’m known as エリック。

よろしくおねがいします

FierceCat says:

The new series file names are confusing ….

Can we have computer file names that makes the new series easier to find, especially when the three digit number at the start of the file has already been used for another lesson ? :dogeza:

Newbie Series 4 Lesson 1 - 666…..mp3
Upper Int. Lesson 2 - 666….mp3

I suggest that the series number go before the lesson type letters.

giovanni says:

Congratulation on the achievements and the improvements.

I hope also that season 4 will be free of the annoying “take a listen” expression!

Entry from The Dimwit’s Dictionary — Second Edition:

“have (take) a listen An infantile phrase (SEE). listen. As inane as it is insulting, have (take) a listen obviously says nothing that listen alone does not. Journalists and media personalities who use this offensive phrase ought to be silenced; businesspeople, dismissed; public officials, pilloried.”

Kale Nagasaki says:

Ahah, I love Eric.
I was watching a Japanese game show and, in place of the english word “Go!”, the man said “onegaishimasu!” and the clock started. I thought it was interesting. :3

avatar
Mayumi says:

Kale Nagasaki-san,
I guess the man asked the clock to start! So, he said “onegaishimasu!” :nihon:

jc says:

i’m new here….as I was reading the PDF i was looking at the japanese writing and i noticed that it looks like some words are written in kana and some in hiragana…when studying the written form i guess it’s a must to know both rigth?

avatar
Naomi says:

jc -san
Yes. You need to know both Hiragana and Katakata.
The difference between those two is explained in here.

http://www.japanesepod101.com/learningcenter/reference/about_kana

We also have a Hiragana/Katakana chart and video in the learning center.
http://www.japanesepod101.com/learningcenter/reference/hiragana_chart

I hope this information helps. Good luck on your studying.
