Mina-san, this girl’s first pick up line was pretty bad.
What’s the worst pick up line you’ve ever heard?

avatar JapanesePod101.com says:

*** btw, video vocab is on its way! sorry for the inconvenience :dogeza: ***

avatar Marvin says:

このレッスンが面白い!!
the stammering is hilarious! great voice acting!

avatar markystar says:

i’m gonna try that one next time :hachimaki:

あなたをナンパしてもいいっすか?ハハハハハハハハ。

avatar ジャービジ says:

The worst line I’ve heard actually came up in a newbie lesson; Rebekah was talking about a Japanese guy who came up to her and said ‘I love you’, right off the bat. I heard that a guy I knew from school used this same line recently on a girl he liked way back in the day, without the excuse of ropey second language use. No ‘hello’ or ‘remember me?’, just ‘I love you’

If you want an even worse one, on last week’s Scrubs, Ted said, in a similar off-the-bat style, ‘can I make you pregnant?’

Ted said, in a similar off-the-bat style, ‘can I make you pregnant?’

nothing like getting straight to the point. lol.
wow. that’s out there!

avatar 仁居流 says:

ゆいちさんはピタ-さんにナンパされただったそうです。それについて説明くださいませんか。

avatar プチクレア says:

The worst pick-up line I ever heard came from the second Austin Powers movie :

“Hey, those are skin-tight ! How did you get into those pants, baby ?”….

But I agree the Scrubs quote is even worse

avatar Naomi says:

仁居流-san

???ピーターがゆういちさんをナンパしましたか????
Did Peter pick up Yuichi? ?
ホント?気づきませんでした。
Wow. Really? I didn’t notice that. Could you tell me when(the time in the audio)?

Mina-san

今までに、聞いた中で一番上手なナンパラインは何ですか?
So what is the BEST pick-up line you’ve ever heard?

avatar AndamanIslander says:

Matt Henry, you are a legend!

avatar sTeVe aUsTiN says:

I’ve been waiting for a lesson like this! Great! Nanpa! Nanpa! Nanpa!

But did Peter say an 80 year old teacher tried to reverse-nampa him? Wow.

avatar のり says:

I think his teacher didn’t try to nanpa him.
We use 「お茶飲みませんか?」 to our friends to invite for some tea. And when we say tea, it doesn’t necessarily have to be tea. It could be any kinds of beverages except alcohol.

avatar A person says:

So I thought I would listen to this lesson today because I already know this grammar point and I could see how I would go understanding even the lower intermediate stuff. I found it funny when Peter said “If you’re listening at this level…”. I understood next to nothing :) At least it gives me motivation but I am certainly not there yet.

avatar Glenn says:

Naomi-san there are too many bad lines. Some of the worst I have heard (emphasizing heard here) that are clean include:

Can I have your last nine digits?
Good thing I remembered my library card coz I am checking you out.
and more and much worse…

Now, I am not totally innocent here I have been know to say on occasions when I see a pretty girl about to light a cigarette:

Beautiful girls don’t light their own cigarettes (then I light the cigarette)

It gets a laugh and I get to chat to the girl - but I don’t smoke. Which means, yes, I am hitting on them - but it isn’t the worst line in the world

avatar HighBridge says:

なおみ先生、名古屋の事を覚えていてくれて有り難うごさいます。The lesson was great!!! The girl on today’s conversation sounds like 鳥居みゆき! Hahaha! :dogeza:

avatar 仁居流 says:

Naomisan

Peter said something like:”Yuichisan is one good looking guy”. Nanchatte, sounds like a good pickup line to me!

avatar 仁居流 says:

Naomisan, Petersan:
Petersan に失礼致しました!!
自殺しよう!

avatar Naomi says:

仁居流-san
After I read your comment and listened to the lesson audio again. …you are right. ちょっと、ナンパしているみたいに聞こえます。

avatar Yuichi says:

>仁居流-san
祐一です。なるほどー:???: ”Yuichisan is one good looking guy” can be pickup line. But, I think this is sort of a flattery line  Actually, flattery is a very good pickup line, isn’t is? BTW Flattery is お世辞(おせじ) in Japanese.

ピーターはお世辞が上手です  Peter is good at flattering. LOL

お plite suffix
世world
辞word

avatar Osazuwa says:

It seems that “de mo” in this lesson is being explained as contextual expansion on what a learner would have already learned about “de mo”.

Could some one please give me the “basic” explanation of “de mo” then tie it to this explanation? I think I somewhat intuitively understand what “de mo” means, but could use a refresher explanation to tie it together

thanks
