It seems that "de mo" in this lesson is being explained as contextual expansion on what a learner would have already learned about "de mo".

Could some one please give me the "basic" explanation of "de mo" then tie it to this explanation? I think I somewhat intuitively understand what "de mo" means, but could use a refresher explanation to tie it together

thanks

祐一です。なるほどー:???:　”Yuichisan is one good looking guy” can be pickup line. But, I think this is sort of a flattery line:smile: Actually, flattery is a very good pickup line, isn't is?　BTW Flattery is お世辞（おせじ） in Japanese.

ピーターはお世辞が上手です:razz:　Peter is good at flattering. LOL

After I read your comment and listened to the lesson audio again. ...you are right. ちょっと、ナンパしているみたいに聞こえます。

Naomi-san there are too many bad lines. Some of the worst I have heard (emphasizing heard here) that are clean include:

Can I have your last nine digits?
Good thing I remembered my library card coz I am checking you out.
and more and much worse...

Now, I am not totally innocent here I have been know to say on occasions when I see a pretty girl about to light a cigarette:

Beautiful girls don't light their own cigarettes (then I light the cigarette)

It gets a laugh and I get to chat to the girl - but I don't smoke. Which means, yes, I am hitting on them - but it isn't the worst line in the world:roll:

So I thought I would listen to this lesson today because I already know this grammar point and I could see how I would go understanding even the lower intermediate stuff. I found it funny when Peter said "If you're listening at this level...". I understood next to nothing :) At least it gives me motivation but I am certainly not there yet.

I think his teacher didn't try to nanpa him.
We use 「お茶飲みませんか？」 to our friends to invite for some tea. And when we say tea, it doesn't necessarily have to be tea. It could be any kinds of beverages except alcohol.

I've been waiting for a lesson like this! Great! Nanpa! Nanpa! Nanpa!

But did Peter say an 80 year old teacher tried to reverse-nampa him? Wow.
