Have Fun Learning Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! Hajime and Yasumi are old friends but Hajime just recently moved to the suburban town of Kawagoe. Most Tokyoites aren’t too familiar with the ins & outs of Saitama Prefecture, so this lesson is, naturally, about asking and giving directions. We’ll focus on public transportation functions in this lesson, so this will be important for your day-to-day survival in Japan. Our grammar point is using the so-called to conditional. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san, Kawagoe is quite a nice place. It’s still laid out like a traditional castle town from the Edo Period. In fact, the town’s nickname is Koedo (Little Edo) and there are many things to do and see there.

I guess that video makes up for the missing Video Vocab

Steve, what do you mean about fireworks in Saitama? :???: :???: :???:

avatar OkayamaS says:

Wow, she was intense. Didn’t teach me anything, but definitely was intense.

Kitty-chan, I think Steve Austin is referring to the fact that Tokyoites loathe Saitama. I too am curious where this is going.

avatar Michael says:

The second one is better; in fact of the few I’ve looked at its the best.
I’m always surprised when I listen to anything Japanese that I understand it.

avatar プチクレア says:

Why do Tokyoites loathe Saitama ?

I love the train system in Japan. You can really go anywhere with them, and I think on the whole they’re quite cheap (well, maybe not the Shinkansen), run very frequently, and are on time.

The only thing is, 終電 is too early !

I clicked the link for “crazy party” and found the lesson about the party in Himeji Castle. I wonder what kind of party Hajime and Yasumi will have….

avatar applejuicin2007 says:

All my Tokyo friends hate Saitama. I think they hate Saitama more than Osaka.
They call it ださいたま by combining ダサい “uncool” and 埼玉 “Saitama.”

I’m guessing there’s a crazy bonus track with the monkey pit crew making fun of Saitama or something.

avatar markystar says:

I’m guessing there’s a crazy bonus track

hahahaha, you know us too well! there’s definitely a bonus track coming down the pipe (sorry no monkeys)

oh, by the way, Video Vocab is up and running!

やりますなぁ。

avatar Naomi says:

I don’t think people in Tokyo hate Saitama. They’re just making fun of Saitama. Plus most of people who live in Tokyo are not originally from Tokyo. According to a survey more than 90% of people who live in Tokyo are from other prefectures. なので、「東京の人は、田舎者だ」ともいわれています。

According to Sachiko(Sachiko, the showhost in Englishpod101, she is from Osaka.), Osaka people hate Tokyo accent very much.

Michael-san:
Good one!! I love that YouTube thing you gave us!
