Mina-san, bet you didn’t see that ending coming! Erm, actually, neither did we…. But there was a lot of good stuff yō stuff in this series, so hopefully you can refer back it to it many times.

Thursday at 10:00 pm
Working fine here too.
Yeah, I agree with JapanesePod101.com, I didn’t see that coming. Where did the mask come from? She talked to this freak for that long and he was wearing a mask the whole time?? Was it one of those George Bush masks?
Thursday at 10:38 pm
I works fine here too.
Great lesson!

俺はあそぶために日本語を勉強してる。
トムクルーズのことはびっくりした!すごいぞ。
It really was a long series about YOU NI
1) you ni + naru
2) you ni + suru
3) you ni
4) you ni iu/tanomu
5) tame ni vs you ni
Thank you for all this amazing information!!!

>>色々な日本文化を了解するためです。
すごい!
I think 理解/rikai(to understand) is more appropriate in this case.
色々な日本文化を理解するためです。

へぇ~。
If you say「ピーターみたいに格好よくなるため」, that sounds more natural.
ピーターさんよかったですね。カッコいいって言ってもらえて。

who would have thought Tom Cruise’s Japanese was so good?
Although he was the “last samurai” and all…
or maybe his “inner alien” spent some time in Japan.

Greg-san
Actually, in the movie “The Last Samurai”, when Tom Cruise used Japanese we needed subtitles…His Japanese was really bad
Tuesday at 3:10 am
直美先生、訂正ありがとうございました。Originally I used ピーターのように and なる, but then I started thinking in terms of English, which is always a disaster!
How can Tom Cruise play a samurai with no topknot and that beard? I don’t know how people still take him seriously after all that ridiculous Scientology stuff anyway. L. Ron Hubbard - mediocre science-fiction novelist turned Messiah.
Tuesday at 5:43 am
This is off-topic, but doesn’t “Scientology” sound like something some loser would make up to try to sound impressive?
“Yeah, baby! I got *my* doctorate in Scientology!”
Tuesday at 11:27 am
Someone ought to make some kind of funny youtube clip entitled “hollywood actors who had a crack at Japanese, but didn’t do too well…”
add Sean Connery and Uma Thurman to the list
Not that I’m dissing Sean Connery, I mean, how could you?
Saturday at 7:15 pm
I found an interesting video:

Hi Guys,
I know I’m a little late talking about this lesson, but I’ve been working my way through everything and only now gotten this far.
I couldn’t stop laughing about yubikiri. This is what my wife says to me when I promise her we’ll do something special that she’s looking forward to. So while I understood the general meaning of the saying this certainly clears things up for me.
Anyway, great job guys, this is certainly the ‘real deal’ when it comes to the Japanese language and something we’re not likely to learn in any textbook!
Wednesday at 2:20 pm
Yamanchu-san,
Now you understand the original meaning of “yubikiri” song, I’m sure you will try hard to keep your promise with your wife. Good for your wife!
Thursday at 2:08 pm
When we were kids we’d link our little fingers while we swore to something. Actually, I think I even remember once my friend and I drawing blood on one of our fingers and touching the blood together while making our promises. Now we’re all grown up and sign contracts!!! I think our kids’ swear was something like: Cross your heart, spit to die!
