Mina-san, can unagi play pachinko in your country?
Tuesday at 7:09 pm
yep, they play pachinko in my stomach
Tuesday at 11:19 pm
The unagis could become stars for some new pachinko machine; there’s always bright advertisement in front of the pachinko parlours for the Jaws pachinko machines, the Okinawan sea adventure pachinko machines… I think you should advertise Unagi Road Trip pachinkos
…
though I have trouble picturing the unagis in skimpy bathing suits…

Wow, the intro title is really appropriate.

The teacher is downright cruel!
I want an Unagi Road Trip T-Shirt!!!

I really enjoyed that “under water” sound while they are speaking. Could we have that for all the lessons???

I am worried for our Unagi friends. I used to live in Ibaraki and if the Unagi make there way up to Ushiku (Southern Ibaraki) watch out! As I remember there were a number of restaurants that would welcome them gladly as visitors but serve them up to others
I agree with Peter here Ibaraki is the best Prefecture in all Japan. It has Kairakuen in Mito, The Tallest Statue in the world in Ushiku, Science City in Tsukuba (best laid out town in all of Japan), The Waterfalls in Daigo, The beaches of Hitachi, Two soccer teams (one great in Kashima the other not so great in Mito), The Mountains to the West, Pottery in Kasama, and the friendliest people. So if you haven’t been (to adopt the Australian Tourism slogan) ‘’What the bloody hell are you waiting for’?'’
Peter you must be able to do at least one Japanese culture class on Ibaraki and Ibaraki-ben.

You don’t know how much I like Unagis…
My parents go to Gangwha island in West sea of Korea and bring some Unagis from time to time.
How they are delicious!
Specially their river-Unagis…. mmmm yummy
Sorry, I’m a little bit excited..
I think they have to watch out Kroeans, too! lol
But these unakitch and unatsuke, they are so innocent and cute.
I won’t eat them even they are served on my plate. I swear!
(I hope they’re not finished by getting caught!)
Thursday at 5:29 pm
I just listened again because this was soooooo cute!

So is it safe to say that you use ~ているところだ with living things(people/animals)?
I also noticed ~なんだ in this sentence:
What emphasis does it add on the sentence?
「今入院しているところなんだ。」
A little confused with the usage
Thank you!

DK-san
>>So is it safe to say that you use ~ているところだ with living things(people/animals)?
→ I’d say so. It is often the case that the subject of ーているところだ is people.
-んだ is often used to give or ask for an explanation. When talking about someone’s health condition, -んだ is often added.
In this dialogue, Unakichi was explaining the Uncle Namazu’s condition, so -nda was added.
Please also check our beginner series season 5 lesson 3. There, you can find more detailed explanation about ーんだ.
I hope this helps.
