Learn to Speak Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! Today we continue our story about Wasabi-chan. All the wasabi in Izu is missing and our intrepid heroine sets out for a wasabi-batake (wasabi field) to see if she can spot the culprit. Our grammar point is the construction -te kuru, used in this case to show doing an action and then coming back (last week was -te iku). After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san, Wasabi-chan’s principal is the perpetrator? Why would he possibly want to throw away all the wasabi in Izu?
By the way, for those who are wondering where 伊豆 (Izu) is, it’s a place in 静岡県 (Shizuoka Prefecture).

And also, if you’ve never seen fresh wasabi, this what it looks like. Yummy!!

My guess is that Wasabi-chan’s boss was hired as a saboteur–err I mean undercover agent–by the Collinsville, Illinois chamber of commerce to increase demand for their No. 1 export.
i remember my host mother said “we have to make wasabi…” i had no idea it was a root…i thought it just came in a tube like in the US
This is exciting, it’s like a CSI episode….hmmmm
who stole it??
学長is back !!!! Having been demoted to 校長 after the infamous Okinawa shark incident, he set out to start his life anew in 伊豆 prefecture. However, the 血祭り left him slightly… soft in the head. It was very easy for the thugs he met in prison to convince him to help them in their quest to rid 伊豆 of all the wasabi (well know shark bait, wasabi is …
)
The thugs believe there is a lot of money to be made in wasabi blackmarket.
Of course, they are actually funded by Taro who intends to get all the wasabi back for his wasabi bomb…
as for Mel …

well, i’ll be a monkey’s uncle! ![]()
i’m st. louis originally and i thought i’d never hear of collinsville outside of that neck of the woods. wow. 懐かしい。
プチクレアさん、
is this monkey 太郎 or the meet up 太郎 or some other 太郎?
are they all one in the same?
or separate sly individuals?
inquiring minds want to know!!
Ah.. you mean, on a metaphorical level ?
I believe in the existence of one great 太郎 meta-entity, whose physical manifestation changes over time and circumstances. Being some sort of japanese equivalent to the greek god Zeus, or more appropriately of the nordic god Loki, 太郎 has the ability to chose the form most appropriate to his current purpose.
As such, all those 太郎 are basically one and the same.
Jpod101 is firmly set under the protection of the great 太郎 god…でしょう ?
A little off topic actually a lot off topic. There are some great photographs of early Japan on this site:
Is it just me or a world without wasabi be a sad, sad place?
I hope she opens up a can of whoop @$$ on the principal. And if Taro shows up, it would be even better!
I’d like to know what wasabi-chan looks like! She sounds like a manga character.
Somebody should draw this sexy green highschool ninja girl.
emily-chan, that’s a great idea!!!
can someone draw wasabi-kunoichi?
let’s remember, the kanij for
く ノ 一
is hiragana plus katakana plus kanji and each shape makes 女
that’s a REALLY cool way to write something
(and to remember kanji!)
Is it just me or a world without wasabi be a sad, sad place?
Maybe, but many tongues would be spared.
