Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! “Why are you telling me to “shush?” you ask your friend in Japanese? “I’m just observing what’s going on. Why do I have to be quiet? What’s going on here?” Your friend has been shushing you ever since you started counting the waiters in Japanese in the little ramen shop where you’ve come to eat. It just does not make much sense. You can see only a very few tables and chairs, but lots of waiters. Why would a ramen shop have more waiters than chairs for customers? And your friend just keeps repeating, “shush” to make you keep still. You couldn’t have counted wrong. You know how to count in Japanese very well. Maybe the words you used to count weren’t right in Japanese. Maybe your friend was trying to save you the embarrassment of using the wrong Japanese counting words. Yeah, that must be it. How embarrassing!
