Learn to Read Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! As all parents know, getting children interested in reading is no easy task. The problem is compounded if the parents themselves aren’t big readers. Today a father is listening a teacher explain how to get children excited about reading books. We’ll look at a few expressions using ki. Our grammar point is using dake with the meaning of “as much as you like.” After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san,
Do you think this poor guy will ever get his kids to read?

avatar Bob1 says:

avatar maxiewawa says:

I wouldn’t be too pessimistic about the children…my parents are heavy readers, and while I love books, I don’t think my brother ever even opened one !

avatar sTeVe aUsTiN says:

I read a book once

Sorry. I had to do a search to even find ePod. Must be another Bob.

I agree with you.

The Lord of the Rings” を読み始めましたが、難しすぎてやめました。
When I was in college, I tried to read “The load of the ring” in English, but couldn’t finish it. It was too difficult for me.

avatar bakaneko says:

avatar maxiewawa says:

Naomi先生, I’ve spoken English since I was a small child, I had the same problem. I don’t think it’s your English level, but rather the book!

I read all of them once, I don’t know how I ever did it. I don’t remember ANYTHING! I can’t remember anything of about 10, 000 pages of Lord Of The Rings.

できるだけ早い is another case where だけ is used to indicate level, isn’t it?

(KC8UFV) says:

I’ve tried reading it once, I couldn’t make it very far, either. It’s definately the book.
