Mina-san, Kinoshita is a pretty passive guy. But at the end of this lesson he seemed to put his foot down, at least on the OS issue. What do think will happen next week?

If these five-part intros are going to be a permanent thing, have you thought about doing an all-in-one MP3 at the end of the weak as a premium feature, like you were doing with the multipart lessons? Also, a PDF with all the transcriptions grouped together would be useful, since I don’t usually get the newbie or beginner S2 ones. As they don’t have kana transcriptions, they could be a good way for me to break into using a kanji dictionary since they’re nice and short.

End of the week*

I can’t follow the high levels, but I listen for the intros!!

I hope Apple is giving you something for the Leopard plug. Actually it is ものすごい, Kinoshita should watch Apple’s ad which is a real downer for Window users. I got the fantastic iPod Touch for Christmas and was wondering whether the amazing Eran could upgrade the iLearning Center for it.

Wow…this lesson is just in time. Today is MacWorld 2008. Steve Job revealed Apple’s new product, Mac Book Air.

“What do you think will happen next week?”
The computer salesman will try to convince Kinoshita-san to switch to Windows, and Kinoshita-san will turn the tables, convincing the salesman he won’t be targeted with so many computer viruses if he switches to Leopard.
Just kidding. I know you don’t want to irritate all your Windows using listeners.

BTW, talking about the need to sell JPod101, looks like the government is going to help you. Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura just announced that Japan may consider requiring long-term resident foreigners to have local language ability. So whose palm are you greasing?

しつもんが二つあります。
1.) How is (Verbたら+どう) different from (Verbた+方がいい)?
2.) In the dialogue there was ” 今なら25パーセントオフです!”
What exactly does なら mean?
Thanks,

Mina-sama!
Excellent Kinoshita-san!
You should upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate or wait until SP1 comes out real soon.
I really like this Kinoshita lessons, keep up this great work.

Rhys,
Somebody can correct me if I get any of this wrong, but here are the answers to you questions.
1) Verbたら+どう means “How about doing such and such?” or more literally, “If you were to do such and such, how would that be?” On the other hand, Verbた+方がいい means “You should do such and such, or more literally, “It would be better to do such and such”.
2) The なら in the phrase 今なら25パーセントオフです! inserts a conditional. If (you buy it) now, it’s 25% off. The “you buy it” is inferred.

ありがとうございます。Arigatou gozaimasu!
とても上手な説明だと思います!!

About nara and tara, I’ve seen a lot of other lessons here about it. I think if you search for those lessons or check the grammar bank you can find a lot of stuff about those conditionals.

ありがとう!!
Thanks a lot for the help, appreciate it very much!

Next week … hmm… Kinoshita will (or at least should) switch to Leopard !!!! No question about that
. Anyway, if he keeps listening to the 店員さん, he’ll probably end up with two new complete systems…

私のパソコンはウインドスざない。マクざない。スラクウエアーです。
Perhaps Kinoshita should try dumping Windows. I don’t mean going to Mac either.

みなさん、こんにちは。
I have a question regarding “ikaga.” What it you were to schedule a meeting time with someone & you want to run the time by that person. Would it be appropriate to say the sentence with the suggested meeting time followed by a new sentence, either「いかがですか」か「どうですか」? Or would neither work?
Thanks!
Tuesday at 9:19 am
カロ-san
That would be perfect!
How about (having a meeting at) 9:00?
⇒九時はどうですか。 or 九時はいかがですか。
九時は大丈夫ですか。is also OK.
I hope this helps.
Wednesday at 7:47 am
Could i say “Ki ni iru?” with raising intonation? and by doing so use it as a question meaning: Are you pleased? , does this suit you? just curious.
