1. We can use wa like the sentence you mentioned.
The first sentence express the event in the neutral way and the second one contrast the person. Basically the sentence means the same as
Watashi wa Higashi-san to wa eiga e ikimasu. Demo Shuu-san to wa ikimasen.

3.yes, correct. As you noticed, the particle wa is placed after the element to be contrasted.

4.The sample sentence show the contrast between Saturday and Sunday.
Moreover we use the particle ni after the day of the week, so that ‘wa’ marks ~ni.

As for your sample sentences, A is appropriate when you are talking/contrasting Saturday and Sunday.
When you say “I go to work on Saturday but go to the movie on Sunday.” you don’t need to add ‘wa.’ It would be;
B’. doyoobi ni kaisha e ikimasu. Demo Nichiyoobi ni eiga e ikimasu.

So I’m a little confused. In the previous lesson, we learned that to make a contrast, ‘wa’ replaces ‘o’ in both the affirmative ‘-mas’ and negative ‘-masen’ clauses or sentences. Now there seems to be a bit of a mix in the lesson notes PDF target grammar section.

1. watashi wa Higashi-san to eiga e ikimasu. Demo, Shuu-san to wa ikimasen.
What happened to ‘wa’ after ‘to’ in the first sentence?

2. ‘wa’ is back in both sentences.

3. ‘o’ reappears. I’m guessing that ‘o’ doesn’t change to ‘wa’ because the activity is the same, it’s either done or not done at two contrasting places. also, ‘eiga’ has been dropped as an inferred object in the second sentence, so not a good target for ‘o’.

4. we have two particles ‘ni’ and ‘e’. ‘ni’ is picking up the contrasting particle ‘wa’. Is there a specific reason why the contrast is being applied to ‘ni’ and not ‘e’? would applying ‘wa’ to ‘e’ be completely wrong, or would it just change the emphasis of particular words?
(when we go into the demo vs. ga section, Takematsu / Matsuyama example, ‘e’ does take the contrastative ‘wa’, one place being visited instead of the other as opposed to two places that are both visited, but at different times.

Leading me to…..

1. Doyoobi ni kaisha e ikimasu.
2. Nichiyoobi ni eiga e ikimasu.

combining with ‘demo’, does this result in …

A. Doyoobi ni wa kaisha e ikimasu. Demo, nichiyoobi ni wa eiga e ikimasu.
OR
B. Doyoobi ni kaisha e wa ikimasu. Demo, nichiyoobi ni eiga e wa ikimasu.
OR
C. I’m trying to extend this grammer beyond it’s usefulness and the answer lies in another lesson somewhere.

I still somewhat confused about the use to “e” and “ni”, can’t they be used for the same thing?
