Learn Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! Agnes is still recovering from her virulent bout of gastric inflammation caused by stress. Just when things couldn’t get any worse, she gets a call from “you-know-who” (Hashimoto Yūsuke), whom she hasn’t heard from in days. Our grammar point is sae ~nakereba, used to make negative conditional statements of conjecture. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san,
When it rains, it pours, eh? Ever since Agnes started working at this company, things have only been going down hill. Could things get any worse? I hope she doesn’t end up losing the only man she’s ever truly loved.

avatar StEvE AuStiN says:

I just checked out the dialog file… What crawled up her butt and died? Agnes used to be so sweet but now it sounds like she can’t handle the stress of life in the big city (Tokyo).

Hey Agnes, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Who writes this stuff? That’s classic! I laughed so hard my co-workers must think I’m insane. You really know how to build up the drama! :dogeza:

アグネスがんばれー!!!

んじゃ、皆さん、また春に会おう!

Wow, I had a GOOD JAPANESE day today. After listening twice, I understood pretty much all of the Japanese not just in the dialog, but in the lesson. I almost never manage that with Intermediate Lessons, so it feels great when I manage it. I can scarcely believe that 11 months ago I didn’t know a word of this language.

Thanks, JPod101, you did it all…

avatar watermen says:

This is lesson #79? not #80.

avatar JockZon (JZ) says:

“Function: getting angry at your boyfriend” Is there ever going to be a “getting angry at your girlfriend”?

/JZ :hachimaki:

avatar Kitty-chan says:

Steve, that’s very funny, but… why is that when a man gets a little angry, he’s being strong but if a woman does it, she’s being difficult? Or the word that rhymes with witch?

Watermen, did you miss last week? In my Ipod it looks like that was lesson 79

avatar markystar says:

steveさん、
too funny for words…
actually, i’ve heard the rest of this year’s lessons… agnes’ life is spiraling out of control. you won’t BELIEVE what happens next week!

christmas burgerさん、
we’re firing that guy tomorrow. there’s no place for comedy at japanesepod101. after next week, i promise things will be 100% serious around here!

yukiさんの大ファンに、
yuki will be leaving us for 5 months or something. he’s a snowboard instructor in the winter. he’s been my right hand man since he came here. together we’ve done so many intros, he’ll truly be missed. but he will be back soon! (also we wrote a bunch of dialogs together to keep things rolling smoothly into the new year. ありがとうございます! :dogeza:

francisco様、
that’s great!! next thing you know, you’ll be correcting naomiさん!
when are you coming to japan to visit us?

watermenさん、
actually kitty-chanさん is correct. you had a different numbering for the news as well. i double checked everything just now and the numbering is correct. perhaps there was a glitch and you missed a week?

jockzonさん、
just wait until you see the function for the last lesson of the year (also, an agnes story)!

kitty-chanさん、
that’s right, this is just a dark and stressful time for agnes. i believe she can pull it together! :hachimaki:

avatar yuki says:

春に戻ってくるぜー!!!皆さんよろしく!
See you everyone next May! Enjoy your winter!

avatar Javizy says:

This is quite a typical conversation. The guy could have been taken hostage in a bank robbery, been in a train wreck, been hospitalised after saving 20 children from a burning building: it doesn’t matter, she called FIVE times and he didn’t answer!

Yuki you will be missed, but even if you’re snowboarding down a mountain remember to answer your phone

avatar Sindyシンディー says:

Marky-san!
I know someone in JP101 who would end up just like agnes story, do you know who it is?

It’s ok I’ll be there in the good and in the bad times like a true friend! S_R_C

avatar OkayamaS says:

Typical.

Not the lesson. Agnes’s behavior.

avatar NeilB says:

I also have had a chance to look at the upcoming scripts. It seems that Agnes will eventually die a long an painful death from stomach inflammation made worse by a misterious shipment of contaminated shellfish tied by the police to a person only known as “Steve”.

Thus ends another exciting chapter of Japanesepod101!

avatar Liz21 says:

Yuki-san!
Good-bye — we’ll miss you. Please come back! Don’t forget us! :dogeza:

avatar Eric says:

yeah, thanks for another great lesson

my Japanese has definitely improved after listening to JPod101, not only my listening but my lists of vocabulary.

looking forward next week’s lessons, ganbatte ne JPod101 !

avatar Tootsie Roll Samurai says:

Wow, Agnes is finally turning into a real human being. Quite frankly, I was surprised she could even get a job since she acts so naive. Getting angry at her boyfriend actually made me respect her a little bit, even though I think she had little pretense for doing so. That Yusuke guy didn’t do anything wrong. So I kind of relate to Steve’s response.

Neil, are you serious? I can’t imagine them killing off a character here, especially Anges.

avatar Liz21 says:

Have you ever wondered what the Fearsome Twosome look like?
Well, wonder no more!

Fearsome Twosome=Mark and Yuki!!

avatar kitty-chan says:

Those are the intro guys? :dogeza: :dogeza: :dogeza:
They look so serious in that pic, i really imagined the intros as someone highjacking the show (in a good way!)

I just saw your site now! Liz-sensei, If i speak Japanese to you now I know that I have to use Polite Japanese because you have a higher social status than me. I didn’t know you’re a teacher!! Sugoi desu!!!

avatar NeilB says:

Wait! Agnes only appeared to be due to puffer fish paralysis!! Hurrah!! Back to normal troubles.

avatar Francisco says:

Hey, the new way of navigating around lessons is MUCH better, a lot quicker than the old one…

Thanks..

:dogeza:

avatar Neil says:

牡蠣食う結構

avatar JJKakkoiGirl says:

can someone (who’s been tuning in regularly to this saga) explain to me how come Agnes and Yusuke are considered as girlfriend-boyfriend? All I know is that they met in the gokkon, and then Yusuke invited her for a date disguised in the form of a business-related matter, and just after Agnes started her job in the company, Yusuke asked her again for another date. Are those enough bases already for a relationship between Nihonjins?

Well, sorry if I’m failing to sense the outright sarcasm here, but “getting angry at your boyfriend??” really, what’s the deal here??

avatar Chris says:

Wow, a bit late to the party on this one, but the dialogue gave me some chills down my spine. I think the english translation is just fine for us learners, but almost all the severity of what she is saying is lost. Certainly, if I was translating for a non Japanese speaker, I’d want to try and get more of the strength of her anger/disdain across in the English. Anyway, based on past experience, this is really the kind of conversation you don’t want to be on the other side of.
