avatar JapanesePod101.com says:

Mina-san,
It’s been a long time since we posted a news message on Saturday. But we wanted one more chance to say Ganbatte Kudasai!

avatar Sachiko Nakagome says:

Good luck, everyone! I’m sure you’ll do well!

And I look forward to hearing from you at
www.englishpod101.com.

Write to us!

Sachiko

avatar Matthew (マシュ) says:

I was just wondering whether the EnglishPod101 course will be starting with the basics of English? It sounds like a cool project. And when will SpanishPod101 be coming out? I wait with great anticipation for it.

avatar watermen says:

Can’t go into Englishpod101.com.

avatar Javizy says:

Peter is right, bilingual lessons can be really useful for listening comprehension. I’ve been listening to a podcast named 子供と英語で話そう! for that purpose, so it’ll be great to have something similar with less of a cutesy feel to it.

If it hasn’t been done already, I think you should seriously consider integrating the communities somehow. Maybe a separate forum, that both Englishpod and jpod members can view, where you can ask for advice, chat in Japanese, or find some language exchange friends. It would seem crazy having two communities learning each other’s language side-by-side with no way of communicating! It might also make an attractive feature for prospective subscribers.

I’m sure it will be a success anyway, 頑張ってくだせえぇぇぇえ!(I don’t know where I picked up such foul language  )

avatar rigo says:

wow that’ s amazing
good luck ep101

avatar デイブ says:

Englishpod101.comのホームページを見ることができない。

avatar Matthew (マシュ) says:

Waterman : EnglishPod101 hasn’t opened yet. :D Just wait until Monday like they said!

avatar Matthew (マシュ) says:

Oh and by the way, what does “頑張ってくだせえぇぇぇえ” mean? I was just curious.

avatar Neil says:

Good luck on your english site! I agree it can be helpful to me as well. I will spread the word.

avatar Neil says:

Javizy, I agree with you. It might be helpful to have a news lesson on sites that promote getting Japanese conversation pals and tools such as Skype that can be used for this purpose.

avatar Alex says:

Javizy, thanks for posting the name of the kids english podcast, great for people with kids and the english is easier enough that my wife can understand.

avatar Sindyシンディー says:

Congratulations on Englishpod101, I look forward to it to improve my English.
Thank you so much JP101/Sachiko-san! :dogeza:

Matthew-san I also want Spanishpod101 to improve my Spanish too! S_R_C

avatar Javizy says:

Matthew, くだせえぇ is a rough ‘corrupted’ pronunciation of ください. You can pronounce a bunch of long vowels like this (面白い > 面白えぇ, じゃない > じゃねぇ), but it’s generally done by guys in casual conversation, and comes across as a bit coarse. Put it on a level with structures like ~てんだ (e.g. 何言ってんだぞ!). Check out this lesson http://www.japanesepod101.com/2007/09/18/beginner-lesson-s2-42-kitajima-a-yakuza-exposed-1/ (you get to hear Sakura say it :kokoro: ).

Neil, what I meant is we’ll have a bunch of English people learning Japanese (jpod members), and a bunch of Japanese people learning English (Englishpod members). Since it would be useful for us to communicate, and since both sites are run by the same people, all we need is a third forum that both sets of members can log in to, and we’ve got a great resource for language exchange. It seems almost too obvious that I’m sure they’ve already got something in the works, but I had to mention it anyway.

Alex, no problem. I quite like 子供と英語で話そう, there are lots of simple but useful phrases that are hard to pick up elsewhere like the equivalent of ‘watch where you’re going’, plus Ayoko’s voice is really cute.

avatar maxiewawa says:

I hope we don’t corrupt our Japanese listeners with convoluted Americanisms.

Who’s up for BritishEnglishPod101.com!? Hip-Hip! Hooray!

avatar Belton says:

maxiewawa-san, the clue is in the title. EnglishPod :: England I want to see all those ~izations, changed to isations!!
I wonder if they have AmericanPod101.com registered?
English is such a diverse language now with many dialects across the world. (remnants of Empire I suppose)
However (mainly due to the dominance of American media I think) American English is probably now the worlds lingua franca rather than (British) English. (And I just find it so odd when Japanese people speak with an American accent rather than a Japanese accent! although it is a testament to how good the speakers English is)

Actually the variety and differences is an interesting topic, and would make for a good advanced lesson on EnglishPod I think for all those Japanese tourists headed for the UK and Australia.

Anyhow, Good Luck with ePod101! I’ll be telling all my Japanese friends about it. And could probably do with learning some grammar myself in order to answer their questions.

avatar Liz21 says:

Good luck with your new venture!

avatar João Paulo says:

咲子さん、お久しぶりですね!

It’s so great to listen to you again. I really really missed your participation at JPOD episodes, but I am glad to know you’ll be engaged in this new project. I’m also looking forward to it.

Congratulations Peter, Marky, Keith. 頑張って下さい!

Max-san, I believe British English would be nice, but I vote for a GermanPod101.com!!

また!

avatar yuki says:

みなさん!どうでした?
How was JLPT?

avatar クリストファー・ハート (KC8UFV) says:

Jazivyさん
I like that idea, and have one better - have both sites SHARE only one forum. It would just take making sure logins are unique. If you already have a login for one site, have the logins work on all the sites. It would just take a flag on the logins, as I assume is done at SurvivalPhrases.com.

avatar markystar says:

>>English is such a diverse language now with many dialects across the world. (remnants of Empire I suppose)

hahahahah

so far, i just participate as a guest at EPod. but like Belton and you other guys, i really love the diversity of the english langauge. i also love the history of it (which is part and parcel of the diversity…). so it’s all very exciting!!

avatar markystar says:

oh and javizyさん、 thanks for the link to sakura saying that! you beat me to the punch. that’s a timeless classic, imho!

avatar bshock says:

Sachiko-san, it was good to hear your voice again! I will definitely listen to the EnglishPod101.com lessons.

avatar Kitty says:

Wished I listened to this yesterday. 今日の日本語能力試験では答えが分からなかった時に I went by A instead of C

avatar MexicanHat says:

Such a cool idea. I’ll be listening to it

avatar lamrob says:

the website appears to require a login and password
i tried using my Japanesepod101.com set of login + password
obviously didn’t work
more curious than anything
thanks

avatar Abrassart says:

I just hope English101.com won’t take too much time at the team.

I mean, I didn’t have the impression that Peter-san and the others had a lot of free time on their hands for doing another podcast.

So I’m a little afraid that because of Englishpod101.com the content of Japanesepod101.com will be less than before…

avatar markystar says:

have no fear, Abrassartさん、the content of JapanesePod101.com has been increasing all year and shows no sign of stopping (especially if i have anything to say about it!)

:hachimaki:

avatar watermen says:

That is my fear too, I hope that Jpod101 content will not decrease.

May I join the beta testing of Epod101?

avatar Hyunwoo(ヒョヌ) says:

Cool!! 楽しみにしてますよ!

avatar Peter says:

皆様!Mina-sama! Thank you again for all the support and feedback!
EnglishPod101.com is almost here! It is really quite something! As I mentioned in the
news cast it should actually be a very practical tool for learning Japanese!

We’re live!

Will be back to finish my thought…

avatar Peter says:

I think http://www.englishpod101.com can be used the way many Japanese people use our site. Listening to the lessons with English and Japanese will help with one’s exposure to the language. The PDFs are completely in Japanese, and hopefully as Jazivy said, we can find a way to have interaction between the 2 listener bases!

We’re really looking forward to your feedback!
As we would like to build this with your help! :dogeza:
よろしくお願いします。
Peter

avatar Clienad says:

wow great stuff looks like your expanding at an exponential rate.
I did wonder what in the world happened to Sachiko. スカウトされたと思いました。
and for all the JLPT’ers hope everyone had a good one!

avatar Victoria says:

Hi guys,

Have just checked out EnglishPod101.com … looking good! It must be aimed at quite advanced English speakers as that audio is demanding!

Just two things I spotted … I’ve signed up with the site so I can register as an affiliate; as a UK visitor, it wasn’t possible for me to enter my own “county” or leave the state blank, and I had to register myself as “Armed Forces UK” which isn’t quite accurate!! Not everyone has a state.

Also, the affiliate banners are all in English … which is great for me, but am just wondering if you’re going to introduce any Japanese banners - am guessing they would work better for your target audience.

Otherwise keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing the site developing!

Take care,

Victoria

avatar Jason says:

Yay, I can sleep now!

avatar クリストファー・ハート (KC8UFV) says:

I just signed up over at EP101, and noticed something. When it asked what level of English, I had to choose advanced, as there was no option for Native. You might consider adding this as an option, as I assume you are probably using the answers to that question to determine what lessons to write. To those of us who are using it as another way to help learn Japanese, it doesn’t really matter what the English topic is, because we are primarily listening for the Japanese. Also, if you were to come up with an English equivelant of Miki’s blog, that would be practically useless from the perspective of a person studying Japanese, while excellent from the perspective of a student of English.

Also, one question on the Gift Certificates in the store here - can they be used on your sister sites, or are they only valid on the site they were purchased on?

avatar クリストファー・ハート (KC8UFV) says:

One other thing I forgot in my previous post -
I like how you can select what language you want the interface in over at EP101. I, as well as many people who have posted before myself over there, are using the interface that is NOT in our native language for extra practice. Can that be done here, or is it in the works?

avatar Scott Curry says:

How about Russianpod101.com? я хочу русскийпод101 пожалуйста!

I’m almost half Russian, but I speak it poorly. Japanese is way easier in terms of grammar and pronounciation. I am still doing battle with Kanji but I am making progress. :nihon:

I’m glad you like the bilingual feature. I don’t mind saying it was a BUTTLOAD of work, both on the tech side and the translator’s side. It’s the part I’m personally most proud of. It was designed to be flexible and pretty easy to expand and it was definitely done with possibly integrating it into JPod in mind. But it’s an enormous job that on the tech side requires rewriting about 90% of the site (which is made even more difficult by JPod already being an established site). So as far as I’m aware, there aren’t any immediate plans to integrate it here…yet. But at some point, yeah it probably will be.
