Learn Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! This week Kōji and Tarō return for more monkey business Tokyo Style. Taro’s skill set has expanded tremendously - he’s even cooking dinner these days! But Kōji seems to be demanding more and more from this talented monkey. We’ll be taking a look at some common contractions used in casual Japanese… oh, and you don’t wanna miss this week’s bonus track. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san, this Tarō is one cool monkey, huh? Multi-talented and skilled!
He’s definitely better off on his own than with that psychopath, Kōji. 頑張って太郎くん!!
Glad 太郎found a chance to get away from Koji. Had he not, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a visit from
PETA
.
I thought he needed to get away from Koji after the first lesson.
There is something wrong with the lesson number, it should be lesson #75 not #77, can someone please fix it.

Fixed!
I find Koji’s slurred plain speach extremely difficult to follow. Futsu kana? Dou sho?
it was about time Taro san decided to run away
with all those skills he will make it anywhere
ciao
Go Taro! Go!!
Neil, I thought the same thing when I heard the first one, but I listened to the dialogs a few times with the translation. And when I listened to this one, it wasn’t so tough!
Like Gogatsu stated, the kanji pdf is not working. The Kanji Close-Up link also opens the same link as the Lesson Notes
neil,
you’re right, it’s very hard to understand that slurred style of speech. On the other hand, there are probably 10,000,000 japanese guys who kind of slur their speech that way, so you’re probably better off biting the bullet now and training yourself to (sort of) follow that way of speaking.
OBVIOUSLY learning Japanese would be a total piece of cake if everyone spoke like Naomi-sensei and Natsuko-san…but…that’s not the way the cookie crumbles…
I don’t think the kanji pdf is working
Oops! We’re not having to good of a day here
Kanji PDF is fixed!
Now look! Who is right, one American or 10,000,000 Japanese guys!
Hee hee…I know what you mean, though: sometimes I just want to scream, “listen, Japan, here’s how it’s gonna be: slow down, stop mumbling and then we can have a conversation!”
At least in an actual conversation, you can ask them to slow down. In English, I get asked that all the time by some people.
This thread (and lesson) are really cracking me up!
The best part is nobody is complaining that they couldn’t understand the monkey!

There is no need to understand what the monkey is saying. We understand the monkey’s position completely without the need for words.
I’m surprised there were no comments on the bonus track. I’m curious who caught on to our little joke….
Mina-san,
This is off the topic, but I just posted a little thing on YouTube about meeting Peter and crew in October! You might like to see it? What fun!
Liz-san!
youtube ありがとうございます!
And what does everyone think of the bonus track of Monkey Business!? Monkeys like Taro are everywhere in Japan. Japanese monkey are smart and talented
Liz21,
Wow, Peter looks like a mix between Jerry Seinfeld and Tony Robbins!
I find the Japanese spoken by older males the most difficult in terms of listening & comprehension, so this lesson was very useful. Thanks for a great lesson.
Yuki-san!
The monkeys in Japan are smart and talent but the ones in America is chaos and everybody should be prepared Japan is the option for now!

What monkey would that be?

I appreciate many Japanese guys speak in this kind of drunken manor, but I think such dialogue would be better left for some kind of advanced course. I usually manage okay with the intermediate stuff (although it’s sometimes difficult to the huge amount of new words), but this one was just noise to my ears. Very difficult to make out any words in there.
Wow, nobody’s tried to decode the bonus track? I just listened to this lesson (slowly catching up to current lessons) and immediately came to see what’s going on in the bonus track. Nothing! Not mentioned once here (except Marky). All my measly skills could decipher was something about a pit crew and a monkey. The pit crew is a monkey? And the previous bonus track (for part 1) was something about Taro, either looking out the window or hanging out the window, I couldn’t understand. So, Japanese experts, how about a transcript?
Anyway, I love the intros after these lessons involving Taro, fantastic!
