So Kanji book to the rescue and I have derived from '申し' that the speaker is HUMBLY declaring that '訳' / REASONS do not exist. Or it could also roughly translate as there are not excuses. So the phrase feels like someone is humbly anouncing that there is no reason for: or no excuses (to explain whatever has caused the offense). Perfect for grovelling to your loved one if you forget an anniversary! I do not know if a literal translation like this has been made in any of the audio lessons, if anyone knows and can direct me to it, that would be awesome.
