Learn Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! It’s time for the Nihongo Dōjō, and today we have an important lesson. It takes place on the subway and someone lost their umbrella. A kindly old man found it and is trying to find its owner before the door closes! We’ll introduce the particle no, which is used to indicate possession. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com to check out the review track and dialog track. Then be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san, we hope you all had a great weekend, but now it’s time to get serious and study some Japanese. As you all know, mastering the structure particles is one of the most important things. Today we looked at の (no) to mark possession.
Up to this point, you’ve seen:
私・わたし (watashi) - I, me
あなた (anata) - you
私達・わたしたち (watashi-tachi) we, us
あなたたち (anata-tachi) y’all
and also
誰・だれ (dare) - who, whom
Can you make some sentences combining this with の (no)?
For example:
あなたの扇子ですか?
Anata no sensu desuka?
・Is this your folding fan?
違います。私の扇子じゃありませんよ!
Chigaimasu. Watashi no sensu ja arimasen!
・No. It’s not my folding fan.
Now it’s your turn!

あのピンクのパンティーを被りますか。 ![]()
あのピンクのパンティーを掛けますか。
For pants, is it 履く or 着る or another verb?
Yay! Fabrizio, you go boy!!

Ha ha ha ha!! The voice actors really outdid themselves this time!!
KAWAAAAAIIIIIIII!!!!! Ha ha ha ha!!!
Kitty-chan
alainさん、
it would be 履く, because you pull them up.
kitty-chanさん、
i’ll pass the message along!
Alain-san
Hahahaha!!!! 「ピンクのパンティー被りますか」
That’s so funny if I see Fabrizio wearing a pink panty on his face like a mask.
Has anybody ever seen some crazy people wearing a panty on their face like a mask? If so, send me pics…
I’ve gone a bit movie crazy since I got my new Macbook.
Here’s my example sentence using the ‘no’ particle. A short video about ‘watashi no keitai’ (my cellphone) and its features. In case you didn’t catch it, it’s a Motorola e680i.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAktHufd5kM
What’s your cellphone like? What features has it got?
Reply with ‘watashi no…’, and ask others with ‘anata no…?’
Fabrizzio, Fabrizzio… I still miss Shakespeare Takahashi.
「誰のですか」と聞くより、自分のために取って帰る方がいい取捨じゃないですか。ファインダスキーパスは鉄則でしょうね。
I was wondering, why isn’t 夏子さん in this dialogue???
夏子さんは忘れ物専門家でしょう。

Maxiewawa-san, I see you are truely in love with your new Mac. Enjoy it!!!
Maxiewawa-san,
As usual you are inspiring! So, here’s my little video!
Here is my video

Thanks for the initiative maxiewawaさん.
No problem JZさん!I was a bit surprised when I saw JZの携帯、because it looked so crappy. My first thought was ‘what nice things can I say about JZの携帯。。。’ and then I saw the real one.
I like Lizさんの携帯。It looks like an old classic.
日本にいる方は? I’m sure everyone would be interested to see the latest gadgets from Japan.
Maxさん,
Yeah, that JZ is quite a kidder, isn’t he? I thought he was serious, too, until I heard him say, “Iie, joudan”
Yeah, my cell is an old classic, just like me, hahaha!
Once I saw the responses with the videos (Max, Liz, JZ), I have figured out I need to do one too. I’ll just be a day late. (I don’t have time to dig out my camera tonight.) It’s interesting to see what everyone looks like. (No-one looks like what I expected.) At least we don’t have avitars here to throw everyone off. Durring the lesson, I loved Akihiro’s comment: Fabrizio can’t be categorized. Perfect description of that charecter. Especially with the bonus track.
皆さん!なんてすごいです!
That is really incredible! すごすぎ!Too amazing! Everyone’s Japanese was really good, and the videos were incredible! This has really got me thinking…There has to be something we can do with this, no??
While I am thinking, just want to say great, great job!
And please keep this up! You will definitely inspire others to pick up a web-cam.
頑張ってください!
Chrisさん、
Yeah, just do it! This isn’t Hollywood, you know!
Bonus Audio was hilarious!!!
Very very nice….wow!!!
JZ-san, blog in Korean….isn’t correct. I should post in KC???
I love you guys trying, keep it up~~~
Vicky! I know I didn’t spell i right
Hyunwoossi corrected me but I forgot
I think a good idea (if everyone was willing) would be to splice all the clips together into one big clip. どう?
ooooh, if i had a web cam i’d make one. i love showing off my phone.

Eeee nice video Jasonさん。やった for another Motorola user.
That’s some nice editing too. 何をつかった?
Alright, my video is up. I figured I’d change things a little bit, since this weekend is ハムフェア2007.

I agree Max. Should we send you the raw. Also, can you trim that little bit off the end of mine, after I thought I had stopped the camera?
JasonさんとChrisさん、なかなかいいですよ!Great job guys!
Chris-san, very funny!
Please keep the videos coming!

Peterさん
As a ハム everyone has a call, not necissarily a name. Just curious, are there any other ハム here?
You already knew that Liz-san.
I confused Marky a while ago, when I decoded the code in one of the lessons, and asked about it. At first he had no idea what I was talking about, until I added time stamps to my reply.

No problem Chris, Liz, Joaqim and Jason, send me your raw files and I’ll try to put ‘em together!
Oh except Jasonさん, who gave us a link to his clip.
えと。。。I forgot to mention, send them to maxiewawa@hotmail.com
マクシワワさん
Tonight, I’ll send it to you. 今はしんごとをします。
Mina-san,
Maybe JPOD has covered this, but my Japanese friend corrected what I said in the video. Whereas I said, “Itsumo keshite imasu”, she told me that “kesu” is used only for turning off TVs and lights. For newer gadgets, I should use “オフ” (off). So I should have said, “Keitai wo itsu mo offu ni shite imasu”. Thanks to my Japanese friend. She told me “off” and “on” are used for computers and all new gadgets.
I just had an idea. Perhaps we should have a Crazy Video contest, with the hosts deciding the winner. Something along the lines of funniest practice video, or similar.
Peterさん
I take it you liked my 懈怠トランシーバー
Or were you commenting on my link to the ハムフェア2007 page?
Done a rough cut of the final video, waiting for JZさんの携帯のビデオ, and anyone else with late entries.
ooooh, if i had a web cam i’d make one. i love showing off my phone.

What you should do is get someone who has a video recording capable cell phone to record you showing your cell phone.

I don’t have a web cam, you could always do what I did. Use a typical digital camera, and record with that. Every recent (even my parent’s ancient) digital camera can record video. It just might not support very much video. My parent’s old one used floppy disks to store pictures/video. Imagine how much of a pain it is changing disks every 4 pictures. (all that would fit on a disk at it’s highest resolution)
OOPS, I thought this used BBCode for our posts.
It’s not a bad idea, but it doesn’t have the same novelty of recording a video about your cell phone with a cell phone.
Chris (KC8UFV)さん、
my phone shoots pretty high quality video, it would be funny if i filmed myself talking about my phone as i used it to film myself.
guess that would be something like this:

Maxiewawa-san!
You turn to the other side, good luck my friend you no longer welcome in heaven DC.

Warning: don’t listen to the bonus audio at work. It’s too hard to explain to coworkers why you’re laughing uncontrollably!!
