Then there’s the embarrassing ritual of “Whose umbrella is this?” “Is it yours?” And you must admit that once again you’ve forgotten your umbrella. What if that happens while you’re traveling in Japan? Well, there are a couple of ways to handle this situation. You could try to move to a place in Japan where it never rains. Or maybe you could tie your umbrella to your wrist, but then you’d probably forget something else in Japan. There is a much easier way to handle your forgetfulness (and maybe help someone else with theirs) when you ride in taxis, trains, and automobiles…oh, and don’t forget airplanes. (One person even left her child behind in a train.) Just learn how to talk about possessions in Japanese!
