Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! Today we’re continuing our new linear Newbie Course, the JapanesePod101.com Nihongo Dōjō! We’ll review introductions and greetings from last week, but also we’re gong to see some uses of the question marking particle ka. And an added bonus, Akihiro explains the origins of the Japanese greeting, o-hayō gozaimasu. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com to leave us a post!

Mina-san, could you sense the tension between these two? Do I detect some drama building?
Maybe they will fall in love and live happily every after in Newbie Land!

Korean American = 韓国系アメリカ人/かんこくけいあめりかじん/kankoku kei amerika jin.

You are right! Akihiro-san wa hansamu desu.
Not too long ago, I ran across 押忍 (osu) used instead of お早う御座います (ohayou gozaimasu). Is this another way to say “good morning” among friends?
おっす is a casual greeting (usually for guys) at any time of the day. but only use this with friends. it’s very casual.
My Japanese teacher told us he sometimes joked with close japanese friends on Sunday, saying お遅い御座います to greet them in the morning, underlining the fact that they have been sleeping in.
ハートクリストファーです。アメリカ人です。テクスッポトです。
Is there a better way to put that last sentance?
Sophieさん
As your Japanese teacher mentioned, some people say 「お遅うございます/oosou gozaimasu」or 「おそようございます/osoyougozaimasu.」as a joke.
Chirisさん

Thank,

how do you say I’m sorry I’m late in Japanese??? please help thx!
because sometimes i walk into class late and ill i know to say is すみません。 got any advice for saying something like sorry that I’m late or something???
does おそく mean late? and if it does how can i make that into a sentence?
遅く is the adverbial form of 遅い, it means “slow” or “late.”
but in Japanese “to be late” is it’s own verb. 遅れる.
so i’d recommend saying 遅れてすみません “i’m sorry for being late.”
お待たせしました is “I’m sorry for making you wait.”
I don’t understand. Where do I begin? i started with Lesson # 1 and so forth and now there is another lesson where I was supposed to start with.
Andrew, this is Season 2 of Welcome To Style You. I think they’re starting all over again in this series.
Thanks Maxie,
Its just confusing how the stuff are arranged in my ipod, not in order and sometimes the titles are different!
Peter-San mentioned that Kim used the Japanese way to address herself. Actually it’s kind of the East Asian way. Chinese, Japanese and Korean all use this ‘Family name - Given name’ structure.
私は中国人です。よろしくお願いします。
全蓝夢 ![]()
The name is actually an adaptation from One Piece, and this is the first time I see it in English. 面白い!Your Chinese is very good! Did I see you on Youtube?
I’m in London though.
