Mina-san, this phrase is a life-saver when the keigo is coming at you light speed.

も一度ゆっくりお願いします。
Mo ichido yukkuri onegai shimasu.
簡単な日本語でお願いします。
Kantan na Nihongo de onegai shimasu.
These are are your linguistic Swiss Army Knives!

Of course, I’m a little partial to Johnny’s last phrase:
なるほど。はい。通訳者お願いします。
Naruhodo. Hai. Tsuyakusha onegai shimasu.

Unfortunately today I am having to use a PC for the lesson but the PDF for the lesson notes is refusing to download. Is it me on the system, otherwise it is a great lesson.

So in japanese how do you say, “Please drop the formality and speak to me as if to a child”? :)

avatar João Paulo says:

These are Survival Phrases that really seem to be very advanced! I bet many advanced Japanese speaker would fine something new to learn in these lessons.

Great dialog as always. Poor Johnny, he was going so fine with his Japanese, it was a pity he had to turn to an interpreter this time.

Anyway, like Peter said… がんばってね!

Rigo-san, glad to hear that you liked the lesson! Please keep the feedback coming, as it really goes a long way!

João-san, definitely agree! It’s ironic that when you first come to Japan you come into contact with some of the most difficult Japanese! Poor Depp-san is right!

Bakaneko, our resident experts will get back to you with an answer tomorrow. Today was one for the ages!
