Mina-san, this is a fantastic lesson to really turn some heads. Try it out and let us know how it goes!!

avatar maxiewawa says:

The learning center isn’t linked properly! A broken link.

I’m a great fan of the Bulldogs.

Subsitute ‘Bulldogs’ for another sporting team to show your support for your local side. Rest assured though, that all other Rugby League teams are inferior to the mighty Bulldogs.

ペータさん、
私はシカゴWhite Soxの大ファンです。井口さんがすきです。今年White Soxはわるいです。

I understand that you love Matsui and the Yankees! The White Sox is my team, but, despite the fact they won the World Series 2 years ago, they stink this year!!

Maxiewawa-san,
Maybe the link to the Learning Center is broken, but Premium Subscribers can still access this lesson in the Learning Center by clicking on the menu bar at top of the page.

avatar JapanesePod101.com says:

Mina-san,

We have corrected the broken link to the Learning Center.

Thanks for reporting this issue.

avatar Peter says:

Max-san, thanks for the introduction to the Bulldogs! Although, I fear in doing so, much like myself, have upset quite a few other people.

Liz-san, あり得ないです!They’ll turn it around!

Editing team, did you not get the memo to edit out the anti-Red Sox tirade? That should be gone tomorrow.

avatar Javizy says:

特定なチームの大ファンではないけど、大サッカー好きですよ。もしイングランドはEuro2008のために(There’s no Japanese word for qualify!?)なかったら、超悲しくなりますよね。

avatar Peter says:

デボンさん、深くお詫びします! My wife actually roots for Boston cause she knows it gets to me! And to tell the truth, I actually like Matsuzaka. My comments are kind of like the Boston fans last year or the year before who said they hate Matsui. It’s because he is so good, we have to fear him type thing.

rigo-san

“hitokoto o-negai shi masu” is asking somebody giving a speech.

So if you wanna take a speech, give your opinion at a meeting or something else, you can say “hitokoto yorosii desu ka?” This is really polite one.
Casually you can say “hitokoto ii desu ka?” or “chotto ii desu ka?”

avatar Daniel Beck says:

if u post more than 20 comments i willget a pic of chigusa and me in the office withsakura san

JapanesePod101さん、

Who are you? I’m guessing Markyさん。 You can keep the pic of yourself. We’ll settle for one of Chigusaさん and Sakuraさん。

Great job on the intro though! Loved that bit by Sakuraさん。びっ。びっ。ぴー。

Peterさん、

I’m sorry, but 日本のファン is not “fans of Japan” in this story. That would imply that the people really like Japan over other nations, not that they like Johnny Depp. And even “Japan’s fans” doesn’t work (as a translation). You could translate it better “fans in Japan” or “Japanese fans (of Johnny Depp).”

avatar JapanesePod101.com says:

lol. not me. i’ve never met chigusa
and nobody ever wants the sound guy’s picture…
where’s the 切腹 emoticon when you need it?

A quicke note to say “arigato” to JapanesePod101.com. This site has been a tremendous help in my first year living and playing baseball in Japan. If I ever make it to the hero interview I will be sure to use some of what you taught in this lesson.

I too want to see a picture of Chigusa & Sakura (sorry sound guy). Onegaishemasu!!!

ニコースキーさん、すごい!A celebrity using our phrases! Would have posted sooner, but was reading your blog and checking out your stats! Very interesting blog and very impressive ERA! Walks and WHIP wa chotto desu ne.
Thank you again for posting! It is really great to see that you’re using our website!! We’ll definitely be talking about this tomorrow! We’re looking forward to seeing you use these phrases in the hero’s interview! Ganbatte kudasai!
BTW, did we mention the lesson we’re doing on Japanese baseball terminology next time you’re in town. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu!
Ganbatte kudasai!

Liz-san, もうちょっと待ってください。

Daniel-san, right you are my friend! It is nice to have someone back checking up on what I say. You need some more recruits for the Save Peter campaign, as I have definitely been getting away with too much.
Congrats on the site.

Yuki, haha. You are too much.

Marky, I’ll take a picture of ya!

皆さん、お休み!

avatar Javizy says:

I’ll add to the pic request. I think you should have an About section like ChinesePod with the mini bios and pics. There’s gotta be some reason JPod hires only good-looking people

avatar シンディー says:

Javizy-san!

I agree with you and I want the pic too!!

JP101 hires only good looking people that’s why I LOVE JP101 crew!

I should work for JP101 too!

Now I wonder if it’s the same way for the JP101 listeners:???: S_R_C

avatar Jono says:

NICE ep ^^

avatar Abrassart says:

I want the pics also…

Well nice lesson, especially because I’m a fan of Johnny Depp since is debue in 21 Jump Street(I know, I know, that was a long time ago).

This is so totally awesome!! A real celebrity in our midst! Who knew!!

Nitkowski-san, I looked at your photos, etc.! Cool! Ganbatte ne!!

avatar CJ Nitkowski says:

Liz21 - Arigato gozaimasu. Ganbatte masu.

Peter - Thank you. I am glad you found the blog to be interesting. I don’t think you want me on your show, unless of course the goal of that particular show would be to confuse your listeners with bad pronunciation and grammar. I am every bit a novice. Unless of course you want to teach people what not to say to an umpire, how to really make him mad, then I am in. Things like, “Anata wa baka deska? Tabun buraindo?” That might be fun.

I had a little issue with walks early in the season, part of the adjustment for American pitchers (mounds and strike zones). I think I have it solved now.

Oyasumi nasai.

avatar Peter says:

Javizy-san, we’re almost there! I am saving up for a haircut, as I would be in some serious trouble if my お母さん saw me like this.

シンディーさん、もうちょっと待ってて。

Abrassart-san, 21 Jump Street!! Haha! You should something for mentioning that!! It’s 4 am, so I really have no idea what you should get, but is should be something!
21 Jump Street = Classic!

Marky, haha. Bring your best 21 JS story tomorrow.

Liz-san, すごいですね!

ニコースキーさん、お返事ありがとうございます! Thanks for the reply, and nice pitching tonight! Last night! It goes so fast!

The blog is great! It is really cool to get your perspective on living in Japan and the game here vs. the States, really good reading!

As for the show, if you’re going to teach things like, “Anata wa baka deska? Tabun buraindo?” then let’s set a date! Haha. Actually maybe we could even have one of the guys here teach you some really “informal” Japanese you could use when things don’t go your way. As for the grammar and pronunciation, forget about that! The most important thing though is speaking!

Very interesting about the mounds. I was watching a program about Matsuzaka and his mound issues in the States. I saw a video of him be allowed to dig a ditch when he played for Seibu.

ps Tabun buraindo? Can you really use that?

avatar CJ Nitkowski (Nico chan onegaishemasu) says:

> I wasn’t even sure if that made sense. I haven’t used it yet. I know ‘Anata wa hidoi desu” will get me to the showers early, or so I was told.

The mounds are incredibly soft here compared to the States. A definite adjustment for American pitchers.

Your non dictionary words & phrases have gotten me that great response from Japanese teammates, media and fans that I love. After being asked “O genki deksa?” a “Bachiri desu” gets an eyebrow raise followed by “good Japanese.”

I am in the teens on beginner lessons and will probably be there for a while. I just happened to stumble upon this lesson while surfing your site.

So you have it the best way to reach me directly would be at CNitkowski@aol.com

I talked to a couple of gaijin players from the Yakult Swallows and they told me they also use your downloads.

avatar CJ Nitkowski (Nico chan onegaishemasu) says:

Last comment, first line I was referring to “Tabun buraindo.”

avatar markystar says:

Nicoさん、 that’s great that other players are using the site!! it’s such an honor!!

‘anata wa hidoi desu’ seems so innocent.

i have an idea、try this one:
どこで野球習ったんだよ?ドンキ?!
doko de yakyuu o naratta n da yo? donki?
“where’d you learn to play baseball? don quixote?!”

ganbatte!

marky

avatar Peter says:

ニコちゃん! BTW, your nickname is great! The ladies at the office got a kick out of it!
WOW! If “Anata wa hidoi desu.” will get you the boot, I sure some of our staff could teach you some Japanese good enough for a misdemeanor!
Thanks for the info on the mounds, as it some very interesting stuff. You were right about adjusting, as you’ve been looking good out of the pen!
It is great to hear that you’ve been using what we introduced, and that it’s going over well! We’re looking forward to you catching up to our current releases!
And finally, thanks for the great story about other players listening! Sugoi! That was great to read!! Really made our day.
I will be writing more in an email coming your way.
Thanks again!
よろしくおねがいします!
