Ketto-san,

We apologize for the confusing information on the pdf.
You can write it in both ways, 初めまして and 始めまして, as the kanji 初 means "the first time" and 始 means "to begin." The hiragana version would be also common.

mess up on the pdf?

Beginner lesson 1 pdf shows はじめまして as 初めまして
and this lesson the pdf shows it as 始めまして

which one is correct? Or when do you use which?

Sumimasen, but trying to come to grips with my location clauses, there's a small matter I stumbled upon in this Lesson I had overlooked earlier. I can't quite place.

Sugu ni kite kudasai. -> Please come here soon.

What does the 'ni' construe with? First I read it something like:

Sugu (koko) ni kite kudasai.

Looking it up, though, it appears too often in this form to be likely; as in:

Sugu ni iku. -> I'll be right there (lit. I'll go rightaway).

Then I realized 'sugu' is an adverb; so, literally,

Sugu ni kite. -> Come here immediately.

(We rarely think it, but 'immediately' is an adverb too, of course). Which would make 'ni' construe with 'kite' (or 'iku', whatever the case may be), right? Simply because 'iku' and 'kuru' deal with location.

Haven't really done Presumptive Tenses yet, but without 'ni', can I say things like this?

Sugu hanasu deshou (hanashimashou) ne. -> Talk to you soon, k!?

Or would I need some sort of particle after 'sugu' here too?

hyogojet0809-san,

The PDF for this lesson is a new format. So, I think it should be OK if you download Acrobat Reader version 8. Can you try it?:dogeza:

Hello,

The lesson notes do not work on my computer for this lesson...all previous lessons I have had no problems downloading the lesson notes. Can you please check to make sure the lesson notes file is working properly? All I get at "blocks/wingding font" where Japanese would be.

Thank you.

maxさん、thanks for helping out! i really appreciate it!

Usagiさん、sorry for my delayed response, i was sick for a few days and then it was the weekend and i was away from my computer.

did you get things sorted out?

as for the order, yeah....., it's been like that since before i joined the jpod team. maxさん's suggestion is intriguing. i'll talk with some people on monday about it. if that works, we could probably implement something soon, but it would take a lot of time to re-tag 500 podcasts retroactively.

i too would like to see them in order in my iPod.

 Thanks Liz San!

You're right Usagi-san, everything is in a weird order. The only solution I can think of is:

1) In iTunes, right click on your iPod icon when it is plugged in. Click 'New Playlist' and a New Playlist should appear. Start typing and name the playlist 'jPod intermediate' or something similar.

2) Go to the 'podcast' tab of your iPod (should be 1 space above your newly created 'jPod intermediate' playlist) and click it. 'Japanesepod101.com | Premium Feed' with any other podcasts you have subscribed to should appear.

3) Click on the triangle so all jPod lessons appear. Click and drag all intermediate podcasts into yoru new 'jPod intermediate' playlist.

Repeat steps 1 - 3 for all lesson levels.

Now, when you boot up your iPod, if you go to Music - > Playlists, you should see 'jPod intermediate' with all the other levels you created. Click on any one, and you'll see all the intermediate lessons grouped together.

Any luck?

Incidentally, to any jPod producers tuning in, this problem would probably be fixed by using a different album name for each different level of lesson. (iPods automatically group albums together as playlists)

Maxiewawa-san,
A belated "thanks" for helping me with my comment, above. As far as "kara" goes, I have a problem when I write in hiragana, then I push return and some strange character pops up. If I don't proof read carefully, I get strange kanji instead of the hiragana I had intended. But, I didn't know about "dou", so thanks for that!

Let's give Max the "Helpful Person Award"!!

Hi Maxiewawa san

Thanks, I have managed to download the Beginners & Newbie lesson to my ipod. Thanks for your on-line coaching, appreciated it very very much!

Can I consult you a little bit more, i.e.
Do you know the ways of sorting or arranging the lessons in sequence in iTunes. (so hopefully when I update my lesson to ipods, it will be in sequence order too).

For e.g. Newbies 1 ~ 20, followup with Survivla lesson 1~ 50, and Beginners 1~160, then Video 1~8. (So the lesson were sorted accordingly)

Now my iTunes, have lessons like

Newbies 1,
Survival lesson1,
Beginners lesson 20,
Newbies 3,
Newbies 5
Video 1,
Survival lesson 3 etc.

And it appears the same disorder sequence in my ipod too!

Could you let me know the steps if you happen to know.

Sorry for the trouble, this is my first ipod, and ist language learning on line as well as first down loading of iTunes. Everything seems KOWAII to me.

Thanks a million for your guidiance!

I'm not sure why it's not switching off, have you tried holding down the Play/Pause button? Usually works with mine.

And the book icons shouldn't fill up your iPod too much, they are just pdfs and don't get downloaded to your ipod.

Hi Maxiewawa san,

It's me again, I observed one thing when I was clicking the GET sign, I could see one lesson, showing at least 4 times. For eg.
Beginner lesson #30.....GET (Stop by Japanesepod101..etc)
Beginner lesson #30....GET
Beginner lesson #30...book icon GET
Beginner lesson #30...book icon GET

As a first time user, using the iTunes, I click on all the 4 GETs, am I doing the correct thing?

My ipod is 4GB, and do you think I have OVER FED it? Is this the reason why my ipod got hung?? Even I have now disconnect it from the computer, it cannot be switch off.
Oops, thats terrible, isnt it?

Please help! Dr Kind Soul

Well, I connected my ipod to the notebook and at the same time, I clicked on the GET till the last page. (when all the GET becomes x or x with a book sign) all in total shows 1275 besides the Podcast (Under the LIBRARY BAR).

End of the line shows 1276 items,4.3 days, 4.34GB. MY IPODS ALSO GOT STUCKED, did not move at all, just show NOW PLAYING (even I disconnect it from the computer), do you know why???

I click on the PLAYLISTS, Recently Added, on the right hand screen shows a lot of lessons has been downloaded. At the end of the line, shows 450 items, 1.5 days, 1.2GB.

What should I do now, MY IPOD JUST HANG, despite of trying to move SHIFT, right & left & down arrow, it STAY STILL, and screen on my ipod shows NOW PLAYING!:cry:What happen to my ipod???

Usagi-san! Omedetou! Firstly, let me say that you haven't actually done anything WRONG, you've just not done everything yet.

In iTunes, in the left bar, you should have a bar that shows LIBRARY, below that Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Radio. Below that we have STORE, with iTunes Store, then PLAYLISTS with Party Shuffle, 90's Music....

Got it? Click on ‘podcasts', which should be the 4th on the list, not including LIBRARY.

From what you've said, you should have "Japanesepod101.com | Premium feed" listed there. There should be a triangle pointing to it. Click on that triangle. The triangle changes to point downward.

Voila! Wow! Almost 400 lessons materialise from nowhere. Each lesson that has been broadcast is listed.

Any lessons you have already downloaded are in regular type, anything you haven't downloaded should be in faded type, with a GET button next to it. Obviously, press GET to download what you want. When you download it, it will be saved to your hard drive.

You're done! The next time your plug in your iPod nano, it should automatically transfer everything you've downloaded into your machine.

If that doesn't work, write us another post!
