Mina-san, the mystery is getting bigger and bigger. Where did Satoshi come from? Why’s he in the hospital? And even more importantly, how do WE know his name is Satoshi??? These and many more questions answered next week. Same time, Same place. Be there! (笑)

avatar Enrico says:

And what if Satoshi ’s surname would be Kinoshita!

avatar maxiewawa says:

I have recently got an iPod (yay!) and subscribed to the premium feed. I’ve go this lesson in my bloglines RSS reader, but not in my iTunes premium feed… is this normal?

avatar markystar says:

Enricoさん, I was eating when i read that… 超i almost spat on my computer! hahaha.. as for his last name, それは・・・・ちょっと・・・・

avatar Peter says:

Enricoさん、超面白かった!(cho omoshirokattta!) A bit of an inside joke around here! Thank goodness you didn’t notice the way we use “Rise and Shine.”

Max-san, hmmm….interesting. Will run it by tech guy.

Marky, the Kinoshita line made our quotes of the month, so let’s put it up there tomorrow!

avatar Javizy says:

I was a bit lost with the story at first; the nurse sounded a bit more Sakurafied than last week. I should really pay more attention to the character names

avatar Chris says:

Enrico-san, Peter-san -
Is this what happened to the Kinoshita that must be a wonderful sales rep? (The Kinoshita that had the APB)

Wait a minute, Markystar-san said that Kinoshita has retired.

Javizy-san, nice catch.

Chris-san, classic!

Juan-san, Sono kimochi ga wakaru! I know the feeling.

Re: premium feed
It’s not that the feed doesn’t work, it’s just that it was a lot later than the release on the site. Is that usual?

Re: the lesson
不思議ですね!三番目のレッスンはたのしみに!

Re: おつかれさまでした
今日、小学生に授業を八つ教えました。うるさかった! それと、子供たちのご両親もいました!
A very tiring day. Can I get an `おつかれさまでした’? Detail your most tiring day at work, and I’m sure we can get someone to respond with an おつかれ。

Something Special:
I realise not all of us have the opportunity to regularly speak to Japanese people to practice our language skills, so I ‘interviewed’ a few people I know. Hope you like it.

avatar Liz21 says:

Max-san,
You are truly a TREASURE!! Thanks for the interviews about “haku” and “kiru”!! Not only does it help to reinforce our understanding of those verbs, but it sets an excellent model of how to interact with Japanese speakers. It gives me courage to try to do that!

avatar maxiewawa says:

Hey thanks Liz! You made my day. 実は、I was a bit apprehensive about making/posting it, but I’m glad you liked it!

I’m glad you’re inspired to do it, that’s basically the idea. I hope you can record something ;) If you’re interested, I used my iPod with a Griffin iTalk pro microphone that just clips into the docking connector.

Good luckLizさん!

avatar Liz says:

Maxie! I’m on my way to the Apple Store in Chicago!

avatar Liz21 says:

Maxie-wawa-san,
おつかれさまでした (poor baby! )
月曜日午前8時空午後8時まで仕事をしました!(10 classes and an evening concert.)
So, can I get a おつかれさまでした , too?
皆さん:仕事はどでしたか?

avatar maxiewawa says:

Lizさん。。。
おつかれさまでした!
I don’t know if you should use 空 though, kara in that sense should be just hiragana: から. Maybe someone should correct me.
Also, it’s shigoto ha dou/仕事はどう with a ‘u’ there also, not 仕事はど, as you have written.
Anyway, as you might guess by my prolific posting today,

わたし は 今日、仕事でわありません。

Hi konbanwa Marky san

Today I have bought ipod nano 4GB and have followed your instructions as below:-

1) download itunes (long ago)
2) click at www.japanesepod101.com/premium-podcast-feed/
3) It goes to Instruction for Active Basic & Premium member
4) I followed the step - Click the subscribe icon below
5) Key in Username: & password

WHY ONLY LESSON 58 being download to my ipod.

What happen to the rest of the lessons like Newbie, Beginners, Cultural etc…?

Can you please teach me step by step how to use it.

Waiting earnestly for your reply.

Thanks

avatar maxiewawa says:

Usagi-san! Omedetou! Firstly, let me say that you haven’t actually done anything WRONG, you’ve just not done everything yet.

In iTunes, in the left bar, you should have a bar that shows LIBRARY, below that Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Radio. Below that we have STORE, with iTunes Store, then PLAYLISTS with Party Shuffle, 90’s Music….

Got it? Click on ‘podcasts’, which should be the 4th on the list, not including LIBRARY.

From what you’ve said, you should have “Japanesepod101.com | Premium feed” listed there. There should be a triangle pointing to it. Click on that triangle. The triangle changes to point downward.

Voila! Wow! Almost 400 lessons materialise from nowhere. Each lesson that has been broadcast is listed.

Any lessons you have already downloaded are in regular type, anything you haven’t downloaded should be in faded type, with a GET button next to it. Obviously, press GET to download what you want. When you download it, it will be saved to your hard drive.

You’re done! The next time your plug in your iPod nano, it should automatically transfer everything you’ve downloaded into your machine.

If that doesn’t work, write us another post!

avatar Usagi says:

Ohayo Kind Soul, Maxiewawa san

Thanks! I was expecting Macky san to return my mail, then saw your reply, “bikuri shimashita”

Well, I connected my ipod to the notebook and at the same time, I clicked on the GET till the last page. (when all the GET becomes x or x with a book sign) all in total shows 1275 besides the Podcast (Under the LIBRARY BAR).

End of the line shows 1276 items,4.3 days, 4.34GB. MY IPODS ALSO GOT STUCKED, did not move at all, just show NOW PLAYING (even I disconnect it from the computer), do you know why???

I click on the PLAYLISTS, Recently Added, on the right hand screen shows a lot of lessons has been downloaded. At the end of the line, shows 450 items, 1.5 days, 1.2GB.

What should I do now, MY IPOD JUST HANG, despite of trying to move SHIFT, right & left & down arrow, it STAY STILL, and screen on my ipod shows NOW PLAYING! What happen to my ipod???

Pleeasse help me, Kind Soul!

Earnestly waiting for your reply.

avatar Usagi says:

Hi Maxiewawa san,

It’s me again, I observed one thing when I was clicking the GET sign, I could see one lesson, showing at least 4 times. For eg.
Beginner lesson #30…..GET (Stop by Japanesepod101..etc)
Beginner lesson #30….GET
Beginner lesson #30…book icon GET
Beginner lesson #30…book icon GET

As a first time user, using the iTunes, I click on all the 4 GETs, am I doing the correct thing?

My ipod is 4GB, and do you think I have OVER FED it? Is this the reason why my ipod got hung?? Even I have now disconnect it from the computer, it cannot be switch off.
Oops, thats terrible, isnt it?

Please help! Dr Kind Soul

avatar maxiewawa says:

I’m not sure why it’s not switching off, have you tried holding down the Play/Pause button? Usually works with mine.

And the book icons shouldn’t fill up your iPod too much, they are just pdfs and don’t get downloaded to your ipod.

avatar Usagi says:

Hi Maxiewawa san

Thanks, I have managed to download the Beginners & Newbie lesson to my ipod. Thanks for your on-line coaching, appreciated it very very much!

Can I consult you a little bit more, i.e.
Do you know the ways of sorting or arranging the lessons in sequence in iTunes. (so hopefully when I update my lesson to ipods, it will be in sequence order too).

For e.g. Newbies 1 ~ 20, followup with Survivla lesson 1~ 50, and Beginners 1~160, then Video 1~8. (So the lesson were sorted accordingly)

Now my iTunes, have lessons like

Newbies 1,
Survival lesson1,
Beginners lesson 20,
Newbies 3,
Newbies 5
Video 1,
Survival lesson 3 etc.

And it appears the same disorder sequence in my ipod too!

Could you let me know the steps if you happen to know.

Sorry for the trouble, this is my first ipod, and ist language learning on line as well as first down loading of iTunes. Everything seems KOWAII to me.

Thanks a million for your guidiance!

avatar Liz21 says:

Maxiewawa-san,
A belated “thanks” for helping me with my comment, above. As far as “kara” goes, I have a problem when I write in hiragana, then I push return and some strange character pops up. If I don’t proof read carefully, I get strange kanji instead of the hiragana I had intended. But, I didn’t know about “dou”, so thanks for that!

Let’s give Max the “Helpful Person Award”!!

avatar maxiewawa says:

 Thanks Liz San!

You’re right Usagi-san, everything is in a weird order. The only solution I can think of is:

1) In iTunes, right click on your iPod icon when it is plugged in. Click ‘New Playlist’ and a New Playlist should appear. Start typing and name the playlist ‘jPod intermediate’ or something similar.

2) Go to the ‘podcast’ tab of your iPod (should be 1 space above your newly created ‘jPod intermediate’ playlist) and click it. ‘Japanesepod101.com | Premium Feed’ with any other podcasts you have subscribed to should appear.

3) Click on the triangle so all jPod lessons appear. Click and drag all intermediate podcasts into yoru new ‘jPod intermediate’ playlist.

Repeat steps 1 - 3 for all lesson levels.

Now, when you boot up your iPod, if you go to Music - > Playlists, you should see ‘jPod intermediate’ with all the other levels you created. Click on any one, and you’ll see all the intermediate lessons grouped together.

Any luck?

Incidentally, to any jPod producers tuning in, this problem would probably be fixed by using a different album name for each different level of lesson. (iPods automatically group albums together as playlists)

avatar markystar says:

maxさん、thanks for helping out! i really appreciate it!

Usagiさん、sorry for my delayed response, i was sick for a few days and then it was the weekend and i was away from my computer.

did you get things sorted out?

as for the order, yeah….., it’s been like that since before i joined the jpod team. maxさん’s suggestion is intriguing. i’ll talk with some people on monday about it. if that works, we could probably implement something soon, but it would take a lot of time to re-tag 500 podcasts retroactively.

i too would like to see them in order in my iPod.
