Get out your pen and paper, this lesson is loaded with vocabulary! Tell us how the weather is in your city today, よろしくお願いします!

avatar kitty-chan says:

Another great lesson! Boy, the weather sure does change a lot in this story, huh? I have a question:
Why do they say TTE so much? Even the first word is with TTE.

avatar doraemon says:

Kitty-chan,

I agree, lots of “tte” in this pod! I need to practise this more

Naomi-san! Welcome!

avatar kitty-chan says:

Naomi-san, welcome! I am so rude, thanks Doraemon!
Maybe I should re-phrase my statement. I don’t understand all those TTE’s. What does it mean? Onegai Shimasu!

avatar Clienad says:

haha! thats quality! Yeah we have some crazy weather in England. Two months ago we had Sun then Snow then thunder then rain then sun again all in two hours. fantastic!

avatar Mieth says:

I really liked this lesson. Being that this is a lower intermediate lesson and a lot of grammar has already been covered in prior lessons I like the direction of more intensive vocab. I would actually like to see much more vocabulary intensive lessons in the future.

avatar Alain says:

Yes the topic’s vocabulary is very interesting!

Kiyttychan, I think TTE comes from the verb iu: “to itte”

It can be a topic marker (like “ha”):
Kyo ha sukoshi samukunai : today ….
Kyo tte sukoshi samukunai: speaking of today …

It can also mean that someone said something:
Ame ga furutte : someone said it will rain.

avatar bakaneko says:

For some reasons, today’s dialog gives me the feeling that the it was 3 geese talking. なんでそれことと思うんわかりません。

avatar maxiewawa says:

Yes, ‘tte’ is short for ‘to itte’. For example,

Alainさんは「Yes, the topic’s vocabulary is very interesting!」って。

avatar Naomi says:

Thanks, Kitty chan and Doraemon for the warm welcome. I’m Naomi. I recently joined Japanesepod. I ‘ll make lesson materilas and I’ll probably be in some of the lessons.
Yososhiku onegaishimasu.

avatar Naomi says:

Sorry! I made mistake!
Should be “YoRoshiku not YoSoshiku.

avatar JapanesePod101.com says:

Thanks, everyone, for your comments.
And thanks Naomi for answering some questions.
We’ll try and get more vocabulary intensive lessons in the future.
Our Intermediate lessons recently have been very rich in vocabulary pertaining to job-hunting, working in an office etc.
Check ‘em out! They are really useful for day-to-day life!

Thanks for this lesson! Today we get the opportunity to use two of this week’s grammar points.

明日は上海で雨が降るはず
Ashita ha Shanghai de ame ga furu hazu.

It should rain in Shanghai tomorrow.

How about where you are? Just change ‘Shanghai’ to where you are, and ‘furu’ to what you think the weather will be like.

avatar markystar says:

明日、東京は曇りそうだけど雨が降らないだろう。携帯でチェックして、最高気温は23度筈だって。 日曜日はいい天気ならいいなぁ・・・

tomorrow will be overcast but it probably won’t rain. i checked on my keitai and it said the high will be 23℃. i hope sunday is nice.

avatar Chris says:

Do tornadoes occour in Japan?

Tomorrow (Sat) it looks like the forecast here Toledo, OH, USA is about 90F (32C). We have a chance at thunderstorms, and with thunderstorms in this area comes the possibility comes the possibility of “seeing rotation.” (I’m a storm spotter. To avoid panic, we avoid using the “T” word.)

avatar markystar says:

chrisさん, i ‘think’ in japanese tornado is 竜巻
but it’s rare compared to 台風

is it really already 90 F in Toledo??! but humidity is low now, right? or…?

avatar maxiewawa says:

「携帯でチェックをした」って?
Waaaa….うらやましいね!
Only in Japan, ね!

avatar ryan says:

good podcast…anyone know the crowded house song “4 seasons in 1 day?” great song!
