Great lesson :D But if I were the man in the dialog I would probably snatch the movie ticket back from the woman's hands.

be careful guys!

"kirai" looks like an "-i adjective,"
but it's actually a "na adjective."

好きな人・すきなひと・suki na hito
嫌いな人・きらいなひと・kirai na hito

bakaneko, like daniel said about お姫様　(おひめさま） 'princess.'
it depends how you use it. it might mean she's uptight or something.

on the other hand, i sometimes address my girlfriend or female friends with ～姫 instead of ～ちゃん or ～さん. for my girlfriend it has a sweet meaning, for friends it's just tongue in cheek, ya know?
they often address me as ～様 or ～殿 insead of ～君、　～ちゃん、 ～様、 which is the title used for high-ranking samurai or 大名 (feudal lord). but it's all in fun.

JapanesePod101.comさん、

It certainly did remind me of earlier lessons. Let's have more of these!

Peterさん、

You don't know となりのトトロ？ Um, yeah, Miyazaki has been "yuuge" some time. Long before 千と千尋。

bakanekoさん、

Re: "Hime-sama"
Seeing that it means princess, you can think of how it might be used in English. It depends on context. If you say it about a little girl in a nice dress, it's a compliment. But if you say it about someone older who you think is overly proper, it could be critical. So, again, context is key.

re dai suki, my friend was on the phone to his new girlfriend's parents in Japan. He said "kanojo ga dai suki desu", meaning "I really like her". The mother almost choked because she interpreted it as "I love her so much I plan to marry her soon".

Does "hime-sama" carry a bad connotation? I remember that it was a bad idea to call a girl by hime-sama.
