But then I checked in the dictionary and found that this means 'inedible'. So rather than saying 'I think I'm not able to eat crab', it probably came out as 'I think crab is inedible'. Possibly this is because the potential and passive form is the same for ichidan verbs, so it could be interpreted as 'crab is not to be eaten' Maybe I should use 'koto ga dekiru' instead to avoid confusion: 蟹を食べる事ができないと思います。(I think I'm not able to eat crab) 蟹を食べられないと思います。(I think crab is not to be eaten/I think I am not able to eat crab) I've submitted rather more than my fair share of posts today. I just spotted I used 食べれない which should be 食べられない. I only wish I could afford to eat more often. I love it in crab cakes, crab salad, or just with lemon and butter. Yummy! I have never tried to haggle like Take does. Maybe I should take him to the market next time I want some. ネイト BTW - This lesson was great. Thanks. I love crab! I only wish I could afford to eat more often.
