Mina-san,

Today’s location is 大阪・おおさか・Ōsaka - hello to all of our listeners in Osaka, Japan!

Yoroshiku onegai shimasu!

avatar nanaka says:

Right, time to go back to the beginner level, time to go back to the basics, and time to be familiar with the Kanji.

avatar chris masood says:

YAY INDEED chigusa-san

i love these newbie lessons they perfect for me.

avatar Oskar says:

Hi everyone!
I’m Oskar from Spain. I have not heard this lesson yet, because I’m trying to listen previous lessons. I was living in Tokyo some time ago, and since I’m back, I have been studying japanese seriously. I passed Noken levels 4 and 3, and now I’m trying hard for the level 2.
Your lessons helps me everyday to maintain that Japanese atmosphere which is needed for, as Peter says, giving my japanese to the next level.
I’m recording CDs now for listening in my car on the way to office, so I hear four or five lessons everyday.

Ok, enough!!! This post was for telling you a big THANK YOUUUUU!!! Arigatô gozaimasuuuuu!!!!! Graciaasssssss

Yoroshiku!,
Oskar

今日は 皆さん、私はEnricoです。これは私の最初のポストです。JPOD101おかげで2006年で日本語能力試験4級に受けました。このサイトは一番素敵ですよ、沢山勉強になりました。毎日ポッドカスとを三つ聞きます。
JPOD101 どうも有難う

avatar Sindy says:

Nanaka-san I agree with you YEAH!

Chris-san your right they are perfect for all of us too!

Oskar-san Welcome Aboard!

Enrico-san Welcome to the site! You remind me of Enrico from Resident Evil! S_R_C

avatar John C. Briggs says:

Oskarさん,
Welcome to JPOD.
I too recorded a lot of these lessons to CDs. However, eventually I gave up and bought an MP3 player. It is so much easier to deal with all these files on an MP3 player and I wished I had bought one sooner.

ぜいこうちょう!

I can’t believe Yoshiさん and Chigusaさん。Well, I guess they know which side of the bread gets buttered, eh? でも、ごますりしないほうがいい。

But, don’t worry Peterさん、I’ll be brutally honest with you.

avatar bakaneko says:

ごますり? だれ? よしさんとちぐささんは? うそだよ!

Anyway, I think the whole thing is scripted, isn’t it?

avatar Bill says:

No. The lessons are planned but the dialog is not scripted at all. :)

avatar Alan says:

ごますりよりも野次のほうがいいね

avatar annie says:

I’d post this back in the New Years episode, but that was ages ago so the comments probably aren’t being read anymore.

Today was the first day back at school and two of my junior high school students said to me: あけおめ.ことよろ.the informal New Years greetings that i never would have known the meaning of had i not been listening to japanesepod101.

avatar Sindy says:

Annie-san don’t say that  I read your post long time ago, so don’t worry ok!

Welcome aboard too! S_R_C

It’s not easy to find something to go along with very basic dialog… but after a little poking around on the internet, I came across this fun site with some well-done animations: http://www.how-to-bow.com/

To enter the site, click on “click to view sample movie.” The site defaults to the “make business” section, but to go along with Newbie lesson #3, I suggest switching over to “have a drink” section (the third link along the top of the page).

Once the page loads, click on “start film.”

When the film pauses, just click on the “continue film” link… and you should hear the restaurant owner and one of the customers exchange a few lines that sound very similar to the JP101 dialog! ^_^

avatar Rob says:

I am just starting to learn Japanese (know nothing beginner Peter-san  ). I know some basics from Karate class such as counting to 10, saying please and thank you, and words for the various stances and hand positions. I was looking for a way to actually learn Japanese instead of mimicking noises and hoping I can figure out the meaning. Then I stumbled across J101.com and now I have the lessons playing during my hour long commutes back and forth to work. These Newbie lessons are excellent. Domo arigato gaziamasu!

avatar Ted says:

No audio files for the vocabulary or transcript in the learning center. Any plans to have these added?

avatar Steve says:

Great lesson but I’d like to be able to hear the conversation over and over in the line-by-line transcript and it’s not there. Please JPod 101, fix this

avatar JapanesePod101.com says:

thanks for pointing that out. it’s all sorted now!
sorry for the inconvenience :dogeza:

marky

avatar Krpride says:

I just started learning Japanese and so far it’s been so fun using JPOD101
I luv learning all this but my kanji is still kinda rough :???: but i am soo totally going to get it all
Thanks soo much !!!
I’m learning so much already !
Sumimasen !!! and hopefully that means thank you

avatar sTeVe aUsTiN says:

Hahaha, “sumimasen” means “i’m sorry” but I bet they’ll understand you completely!

avatar TheChosen says:

In the lesson, Peter-san was very excited to introduce his “on top of the world” answer to “genki desu ka” but it is not in the vocabulary. I cannot figure out what specifically the romanji should be and therefore cannot look it up to add to my own vocabulary.

I love the additional words, but really would like to see them in the vocabulary list for the lesson notes.

Great job guys!

avatar Maurice says:

Hi everyone! I’m having a really great time with the Newbie lessons too. I was a complete utter beginner before I started them a few days ago and I must say they really help, I love the casual vibe in the lessons.

As far as the ‘on top of the world’ answer goes, i had a few guesses at it but my girlfriend corrected me and told me that the romanji is ZEKOUCHO DESU.

hope that helps!

avatar retropunk says:

The correct kanji / hiragana / roomanji is

絶好調 ・ぜっこうちょう ・zekkouchou

avatar kitty-chan says:

What is romanji/roomanji? Do you guys mean ROMAJI? (There’s no N in the word). :???:

avatar retropunk says:

Next time I’ll remember to proofread.

avatar maxiewawa says:

Kitty-chan, maybe they’re doing as the Japanese do, adopting other languages’ words, adding/subtracting syllables to make new ones. ;)

avatar retropunk says:

Or total absence of characters
