Mina-san, 只今「tada ima」!Apologies for the long absence, but we’re finally back! Well, at least some of us are, and the rest of the team will be back soon.
In regards to the affiliate program, we’ll be releasing it this week. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu!

Hi this is my first post. I just want to say what an amazing job you guys do I have been listening for a few weeks now trying to catch up and am hooked! Its the best entertainment on the net and its educational too!

I have a quick question I’m not sure where to post it so here we go. One of my Japanese friends has just got engaged, how can I say “congratulations on your engagement”? I am guessing its (something) And what are the Kanji? I am worried about translating it wrongly, i don’t want to say “congratulations you are on the phone!”

Thanks for your help
Nick

avatar doraemon says:

Hi folks and welcome back!

Thanks for promising to fix the glitches! I am lost without the English translation on the blog! Which obviously means I need to learn more! Lol!
Nick-san,
This is what I heard recently: konyaku o omedetto gozaimasu. I am sure the experts will be here soon to help you out.

Gambatte everyone ;-)

avatar Belton says:

>Nick-san,

In answer to your question I’d say–
or less formally

>jPod-san!
Did I miss the promised headline in this cast?

If anyone’s interested in more information about the night buses 深夜バス (and I guess more Japanese practice) here’s the jp.wikipedia page on the topic: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B7%B1%E5%A4%9C%E3%83%90%E3%82%B9

And also a photo that someone posted on a Japanese weblog–shows the interior of a night bus: http://mitsuzawa.net/pics/20050820/13.jpg

Additionally, here’s the jp.wikipedia link to mirarashi dango みたらし団子: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%81%BF%E3%81%9F%E3%82%89%E3%81%97%E5%9B%A3%E5%AD%90

There are recipes (with photos) at these two pages if you want to try making them yourself ^_^ (this is, of course, no substitute for actually going to Japan and getting first-hand experience!): http://www.ecorient.co.jp/hmp/mm/024/index.html and http://www.suksuk.net/learning/recipe/l031227.html

notes:
白玉粉 and 上新粉 are both types of rice flour

– For in-depth info. on the differences between the two types of flour (for more advanced Japanese students), check out this yahoo.co.jp bulletin board post: http://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail.php?queId=9221594 (someone provides an answer to the question 「上新粉」と「だんご粉」と「白玉粉」は何か成分などが違うんですか?

avatar Daniel Beck says:

Wow, thanks for all that!

You should work for JP101!

avatar Alan says:

Glad to hear you had a good holiday Peter. Did you visit Matsumoto Castle? I’m looking forward to the new year’s lessons.

Good luck Fujimoto-sensei in trying to keep the team in order.

avatar Liz21 says:

Hey, Peter!
I’m glad you enjoyed my tips about Nagoya!! It’s such a thrill for me to hear you say that!! You can’t imagine . . . .

avatar Peter says:

Liz-san, it was even a bigger thrill for me to have some inside knowledge without really knowing the place!

Alan-san, of course! Absolutely beautiful! We have some pictures, and hopefully we’ll be able to get them up soon.

Daniel-san, excellent suggestion!

I would like to second that motion! Are you interested?

Sindy-san, package has been received.

Chris-san, yep! And we’d like to try to keep adding more!

Promised headline…

Doraemon-san, everything should be in order. Apologies for the delay.

Nick-san, thank you for listening and for posting! Please keep them coming. In reference to your question:
I asked a few of my friends, and they said おめでとう or おめでとうございます。But these were some close friends and the topic was already established. I would say it depends on how the conversation goes. If you are first to congratulate go with Belton-san’s recommendation. But is she beats you to the punch and says I got engaged, then I would go with おめでとう or おめでとうございます。depending on how close you are, etc.

avatar Sindy says:

Peter-san
