I would like to know how Peter became such a good teacher? Did he teach language at some point??

A picture speaks a thousand words right? So that is worth at least a podcast. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that a picture and bio of the staff would be appreciated and would spark more interest in your site.

Took JLPT 3 today and was pretty much what I expected! I thought the kanji part was really easy but most other people thought it was the hardest part. The rest I think I did so/so and am confident I will get a giri-giri pass.

wow… the JLPT….

i took at at 東大 (Tokyo University) today. man, it was so crowded. i had no idea so many people were studying Japanese!
i live here in Japan and i have to say, WOW, so many people want to learn it.

if the people who saw the Black Ships arrive saw this today… i wonder what they would think… hahahaha

anyhoo… did anyone else take the test today?

i did 三級 today and i have to day, it was easier than i expected. maybe i got lucky. or maybe all my hard work and daily podcast listening helped!! （笑）

I just came back from Hungary where I took JLPT3 today in Budapest. It was easier than I expected.I was pretty sure about almost all answers!So I guess I did a good job. Dont want to wait till March to know the score….

Yes, the bar graph one was a guess for me too. I think he was saying that it increased by 5000 units in 2002 and 2003, but I am not sure.

If those were the only choices, and the phrase was 兄の背が高さと___, then 比べました is the only choice that’s grammatically correct.

The question that got me was the one about climbing mount Fuji while studying in Japan. All four answers seemed wrong to me, but I went with あいだに　(間に) as it seemed plausible. One of my friends chose ことを and he seemed pretty sure about it, but I’ve not seen it used in that context before, and it seemed like を would be the wrong particle.

You’re right. 間に can be used to express doing something while doing something else. It’s different from 〜ながら in that in 〜ながら both actions are happening at the very same time. 間に is usually attached to an action (or time period) that is/was ongoing. Using the JLPT example, compare these:

-日本で勉強している間に、富士山を登りました。 = “While I was studying in Japan, I climbed Mt. Fuji (at some point during my trip).”
-日本で勉強しながら、富士山を登りました。 = “While I studied in Japan, I climbed Mt. Fuji (the book was in my hand and I studied as I climbed)”

My answer in the BAR choukai is number 3. I remembered that 2001 and 2003 is more than 5,000 and 2005 is BAI(doubled) and 2005 is around 10,000… as far as what I’ve heared frm the choukai… sorry (ani is older brother… hehehehe) and I also answered aida in.

nihon ni ryuugaku suru aida ni fujisan ni noboritai.
literally translates as “In the middle (or during) of my study in japan (as a foreign student) I want to climb mount fuji. hehehe

PS: aahhhh now I know where JLPT test was going to be ehhh at Columbia University but its too late I couldn’t go because I didn’t knew and a certain individual keep it to him self!

I am just wondering wheather we will be prepared for 2kyu next year by listening to this podcast. Because now almost all peaple who were writting did 3kyu and I think we all want to go with 2kyu next year or in 2 years. So Peter is it possible that this podcast will reach 2kyu level in one year? Because there is pretty big gap between 3kyu and 2kyu… I just god idea what about to make once a week podcasts focusing to passing 2kyu?! I think you can make many new listeners with something like this!!!
But anyway you are doing very good job! I listen to your podcast everyday when I go to school, when I prepare my food,when I co out with my dog….It is just amazing what you are doing!

and, I agree with others here that it would be great to have photos of the jpod crew with their bios. I think it would help with feeling more connected to the them and draw people ein. Not that we are not all drawn in by the great lessons and the fun they add to it.
