I definitely feel more confident for the JLPT 3kyuu, especially the listening section, thanks to jpod101. Last year I took 4kyuu, and I found the listening hard mainly due to my unfamiliarity with the plain form and casual spoken Japanese. This is something we don’t learn in class! However, this year, I do not think that will be a problem.
Japanesepod101.comのおかげできっと合格します。
Sunday at 4:25 am
Ganbattene John Briggs-san for your test and others who are also taking JLPT!!! And tell us about how was it.
Buncha luck from TX,

Ah one more thing…Peter-san, long bath eh??? What you were thinking?
Also my friend who help Nathan-san from Korea, I met through jppod as well.
Hope Im next line on visiting Jppod. Heading on June!
Finally my company block jppod site, so I won’t able to get here during a day.
Sunday at 4:51 am
Yeah Pictures!!! Come on Nina-sama, let’s post about the pictures so we can see all crew from jppod.
How many comments do we need for this??? We will do it!!!
Picture picture picture!!!
Sunday at 5:24 am
I would love to see pictures too….
And also it would be nice if some personal information are added-for example Natsuko is with us from the beginning but we know about her so few information…..I am curious about things like travel experiences….
So I think everybody should write something about his/her self and attach picture.
What do you think minasan?
In few hours I will be taking JLPT 3. Unfortunatelly it is not possible to take it in my country so I need to travel abroad to take it….
じゃ試験を受けるみんながんばりましょうね。
Sunday at 5:37 am
My name got mentioned on JPod101?!?!?

thanks for the advice Peter-san but unfortunately I am unable to take the JLPT this year but I am already revising for next year’s 2kyuu test!
mina-san, ganbatte kudasai!!
I’m sorry if I was asking too much of you, Peter-san!!
Sunday at 6:02 am
Hi everyone!!! This is my 1st time posting
. I have to agree with katarina and Vicky above; I want to see pics and read the bios in the Member Introduction page. Haha, Natsuko will probably list horse racing as one of her hobbies
Sunday at 6:06 am
I would like to know about how JPOD got started!!
I would like to know something about your process in putting together these wonderful podcasts!!
I would like to know how Peter became such a good teacher? Did he teach language at some point??
I wouldn’t mind photos, too, but I really, really, really, would like to see the above things addressed at some point, unless there is some reason you wish to preserve your privacy. Please let us know if that is the case and we will get off your back!! Otherwise, put out!!

Sunday at 6:10 am
Good luck to everyone taking JLPT! Ganbatte!
More JP101 background would be fun too!
I’m incredibly behind, but I’ll catch up at some point. I think.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Sunday at 6:13 am
I
love
pictures.
Also, I’m very interested in learning more about how you work as a team - who does which things? And are there really some secret writers there?
Sunday at 6:30 am
jPod族のfirst cohort、頑張ってね!
All you need is a good photographer that you trust to take your pictures.
What about Jeff Cooke?
Sunday at 6:36 am
Peter,
A picture speaks a thousand words right? So that is worth at least a podcast. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that a picture and bio of the staff would be appreciated and would spark more interest in your site.

Took JLPT 3 today and was pretty much what I expected! I thought the kanji part was really easy but most other people thought it was the hardest part. The rest I think I did so/so and am confident I will get a giri-giri pass.
Would love to hear how other people found their tests?
Thanks to JP101, Im sure everybody’s listening scores are higher!
Sunday at 3:40 pm
Jpod101: I _demand_ that you update your member introductions page (preferably with photos).
It would be
a shame to hit your 1 year anniversary and still have that page void of “in-depth” content, wouldn’t it? It’s been like that ever since I joined, and I am devastated every time I load it.
But otherwise, please keep up the good work.
Thanks.

Friendships are to be greatly valued and to meet with such a lovely person was an honour. My stay in Chicago was fantastic thanks to Liz’s great kindness and hospitality. Thank you JPod.
Sunday at 11:47 pm
wow… the JLPT….
i took at at 東大 (Tokyo University) today. man, it was so crowded. i had no idea so many people were studying Japanese!
i live here in Japan and i have to say, WOW, so many people want to learn it.
if the people who saw the Black Ships arrive saw this today… i wonder what they would think… hahahaha
anyhoo… did anyone else take the test today?
i did 三級 today and i have to day, it was easier than i expected. maybe i got lucky. or maybe all my hard work and daily podcast listening helped!! (笑)
i hope everyone else had a positive experience!!

I just came back from Hungary where I took JLPT3 today in Budapest. It was easier than I expected.I was pretty sure about almost all answers! So I guess I did a good job. Dont want to wait till March to know the score….
Thank you JPPOD.I think your lessons helped me a lot!
Monday at 6:49 am
I found it easier than expected too. Seems a lot of people did. Maybe they are dumbing down the test…? Or maybe, it is just the jpod101 effect
Good luck all - especially the Americans, who are probably still taking the test as I type.
Monday at 7:18 am
I think it is definitelly JPOD101 effect
And we were also studing so hard by our selves…… So I think the test was actually very difficult but we were very well prepared…..dont you think so?!
Monday at 1:38 pm
Minnasan,
Well I just got back from a long day, but mission accomplished. I completed the JLPT Level 3 at Columbia University and visited the Kinokuniya bookstore near Rockefeller center. and everyone there speaks in ペーターべん. For now, I happy just to be done with it. Guess I will know the result some time in March.
If there is anyone with a good memory, perhaps you can tell me the answer to the question あにの せがたださ___ I think some of the choices were つかまいました, くらべました,、わすれました
Congratulations to all that completed the test and let’s meet back here in the forums in March to share the results, whatever they may be.
As for the difficulty of the test, I thought it was similar to previous practice tests that I have taken.
I listened to JPOD on my 4 hour drive down and 4 hour drive back (Unlike some people I DON”T sleep with the JPOD team). Great stuff. I think JPOD is particularly useful in helping with the listening section. Also, JPOD helps remind me of grammar points and casual Japanese. One point in particular that was helpful to me today was that くださいcan be dropped from the ~てください construction in casual Japanese. That came up in the test today and I would not have gotten it without JPOD’s help.

あにの せがたださ___ I think some of the choices were つかまいました, くらべました,、わすれました
my answer is くらべました (to compare)! My Sis’ height is being compared from mine. just like that….
Monday at 4:04 pm
Yeah, I got the same answer - くらべました. “I compared my height with that of my older brother”. I think there was a と
in there somewhere too.
The question that got me was the one about climbing mount Fuji while studying in Japan. All four answers seemed wrong to me, but I went with あいだに (間に) as it seemed plausible. One of my friends chose ことを and he seemed pretty sure about it, but I’ve not seen it used in that context before, and it seemed like を would be the wrong particle.
Also, seemed like everyone agreed that the listening question about the bar graph was hard. Of all the listening questions, that was the only one that was a 100% guess from me. I didn’t understand a word. I chose “1″ because after 10 previous questions there had been no other 1s. No better reason that that.
Monday at 8:52 pm
Yes, the bar graph one was a guess for me too. I think he was saying that it increased by 5000 units in 2002 and 2003, but I am not sure.
Monday at 10:00 pm
Wasn’t sure about the graph question but think I narrowed it down to 2 which may have been (1&3) but I cant remember what I chose.
As for the Fuji-san question, I think I chose 前に or 間に. Can’t remember but both sound plausible to me. Climbing before starting school or during. Now that I think of it though 間に sounds better.
I also find it interesting that the same test is done all over the world as places like Japan, Australia, NZ have it almost a day earlier than America. Must be interesting reading peoples thoughts about the same test before actually doing it.
Monday at 10:51 pm
皆さん、お疲れさまでした。
If those were the only choices, and the phrase was 兄の背が高さと___, then 比べました is the only choice that’s grammatically correct.
You’re right. 間に can be used to express doing something while doing something else. It’s different from 〜ながら in that in 〜ながら both actions are happening at the very same time. 間に is usually attached to an action (or time period) that is/was ongoing. Using the JLPT example, compare these:
-日本で勉強している間に、富士山を登りました。 = “While I was studying in Japan, I climbed Mt. Fuji (at some point during my trip).”
-日本で勉強しながら、富士山を登りました。 = “While I studied in Japan, I climbed Mt. Fuji (the book was in my hand and I studied as I climbed)”

My answer in the BAR choukai is number 3. I remembered that 2001 and 2003 is more than 5,000 and 2005 is BAI(doubled) and 2005 is around 10,000… as far as what I’ve heared frm the choukai…
sorry (ani is older brother… hehehehe) and I also answered aida in.
nihon ni ryuugaku suru aida ni fujisan ni noboritai.
literally translates as “In the middle (or during) of my study in japan (as a foreign student) I want to climb mount fuji. hehehe
Monday at 11:05 pm
opps! my answer is numer 2 in bar graph. sorry for wrong info
peace!

Mina-san, お疲れさまでした。
Thanks for all the feed back! It really meant a lot to us, and we’re looking forward to helping you prepare for next years test.
Tuesday at 2:04 am
Thanks Jason - That is really helpful. I think I may have fluked a point out of that question.
I can’t remember the exact question, but it was something similar to your first example except using 留学生(りゅうがくせい) instead of 勉強.
ありがとうございました
Tuesday at 2:10 am
Ah, I just saw Ma-to Shiburuさん’s message. Yes, I think that was the exact question. Thanks!
Peterさん: Thanks for all the podcasts! Oh, I think I may have converted a few people to jpod101 at the JLPT test - They seemed to struggle with the listening section, so I gave jpod101 a heavy plug…
Tuesday at 6:55 am
Ah man,
I found out about this website after I took yesterday’s level 3 JPLT test! It was tough, but I think I did enough to pass! In anycase, well done to the founders of this website - it’s really cool and I am sure it will help people learn Japanese well!
I will definitely tell people about this website!
My friend and I recently launched a new website with the aim to bridge cultural communication between the UK and Japan so please check it out and spread the word also!

PS: aahhhh now I know where JLPT test was going to be ehhh at Columbia University but its too late I couldn’t go because I didn’t knew and a certain individual keep it to him self!
Tuesday at 5:07 pm
i love listening to the podcasts. and i introduced them to my mom, who listened to tons of them before she came to visit me and i could tell that they definitely helped her in her two weeks here.
but, unfortunately i don’t think that they helped me much on 2級. they just aren’t advanced enough.
Tuesday at 7:03 pm
I am just wondering wheather we will be prepared for 2kyu next year by listening to this podcast. Because now almost all peaple who were writting did 3kyu and I think we all want to go with 2kyu next year or in 2 years. So Peter is it possible that this podcast will reach 2kyu level in one year? Because there is pretty big gap between 3kyu and 2kyu… I just god idea what about to make once a week podcasts focusing to passing 2kyu?! I think you can make many new listeners with something like this!!!
But anyway you are doing very good job! I listen to your podcast everyday when I go to school, when I prepare my food, when I co out with my dog….It is just amazing what you are doing!
Tuesday at 10:10 pm
Katarinaさん、
Although the JLPT 三級 tests takers might be very vocal, I think the average JPOD listener might be looking for something less serious. So I won’t be surprised if JPOD does not take this on. In fact, they have gone the other direction and tried for lower intermediate to fill in between beginner and intermediate.
That being said, I too would love to see something on 二級.
BTW, some of us are not counting their chickens before they hatch. Waiting for March.

there seems to be a serious lack of materials for Japanese learners at the 2kyu/1kyu level.

That is not fair. I thought we all had to wait until March. Why is NYC being singled out for late test scores.

John-san…wow! you went to Kinokuniya after your test? I met friends there after they took the test too. WOW. we were in Kikokuniya at the same time. ^___^ i hope to take it next year.
to everyone else–I wish you the best test results in March.
and, I agree with others here that it would be great to have photos of the jpod crew with their bios. I think it would help with feeling more connected to the them and draw people ein. Not that we are not all drawn in by the great lessons and the fun they add to it.
Wednesday at 4:11 am
Lu-chan,
Very interesting. Yes I think there were a lot of people at kinokuniya from the test. I spent $21 to park for one hour. There was a young lady looking over the ni-kyuu 二級 books for next year because she had taken the san-kyuu 三級 this year.
Before the test, I also met a woman that works at MIT in Boston and was taking the yon-kyuu 四級test. I think there were a lot of Massachusetts people there.
