Mina-san,

Let us know what you think about this new season of intermediate lessons!

Yoroshiku onegai shimasu!

avatar Carlo says:

Another great lesson, JPOD101 team!

The Intermediate Lesson Season 2 starts in the best way: a new and interesting story, a lot of useful vocabulary and expressions (勉強になりました! )and above all a very enjoyable conversation in Japanese along with the story.
Indeed I think that these explanations of the main story are the most interesting and useful point of Intermediate Lesson.
And accoding to me it’s a great pleasure to listen to Natsuko-san, Yoshi-san and Peter-san (and of course Sakura-san, Chigusa-san, Take-san and so on) talking together in Japanese: sometimes I feel like I’m in the studio with you all!

Thank you very much once again, JPOD101 team, and 頑張ってください!

カルロ

アルローさんのコッメントに賛成です。目標は明確だから、あのレッソンの日本語で言葉を交わしたものはとても参考になっています。そんなたくさん集中的な会話iLoveのビデオからいなくなっています。これがビデオよりオーディオ風のレッソンが大好きの理由です。

そのレッソンにもうありがとうございます。
次のを楽しみにしています。

つまりthe lesson’s explanation in Japanese is easily as valuable, if not more, a comprehension exercise as the conversation acted out. This is why I prefer audiostyle lessons to videos. Thanks- great work - look forward to more!

avatar Hugo says:

Great work everybody you are in short the motivation of my days  I agree with Carlo-san, sometimes is easy to imagine speaking with all in the studio!

avatar Steve says:

あいかわらず…great lesson.
I like the variety of blogs, intermediate lessons and videos to suppliment beginner lessons (my level). Great start to season 2. Look forward to what happens next!

avatar Alain says:

Well, the new story seems interesting! Good luck for season 2 !

Just a question about the やっと決心したんだもん sentence.
In plain japanese, it would be “kesshin shita no da mono” or “kesshin shita mono da monoda”?
Can you explain this form?

avatar Bob1 says:

This is going to be a great series! 一生懸命頑張らなくちゃ! I will really have to keep my nose to the grindstone for these lessons. I hope we’ll see a lot of Jpoders advancing to these lessons from the low intermediate ranks! The running gag with difficult tasks like this is “Don’t try this at home,” but of course I’m sure that JPod101 hopes a lot of us will try this one at home.

avatar Bob1 says:

Since these lessons constitute your long-term assets, you’ll probably want to correct a typo in the pdf, even though it is very minor. On the translation page in Mitsuo Yokota’s last line you have him saying “Well, there must be someting to our meeting.” I think there is someting wrong with a spelling.

avatar NickT says:

I am quite behind on the intermediate lessons, but since this is the start of a new season, I couldn’t resist listening to it. I liked it a lot - seems like it will be another great story.

After the JLPT exam in a few weeks time, I will dedicate some serious time to getting up to date with the Intermediate lessons. They are still a little hard for me, but I feel like they are almost within my grasp….

Right now, I am concentrating on past papers for JLPT, including the choukai. It’s a shame the older exams have such poor audio quality…

NickTさん、
I have the audio for 2002,2003,2004,2005 from CDs ripped to 192kbps for Level 3 and Level 4 if this is of any help.
Where will you take the test?
Thanks
John C. Briggs

avatar NickT says:

John,

What is your email address? Mine is nicholas dot thomas at imperial dot ac dot uk.

I will be taking the exam in London (England) at SOAS university.

Cheers,

Nick

avatar John C. Briggs says:

NickTさん、
I will try to send you an email directly and we can talk more that way. I am happy to tell you my email address, but I don’t really want to post it here.

I will be taking the test in NYC but I have a friend that will be taking the Level 3 exam in London at SOAS.
Only 13 days left.

Maybe an approximate translation of “nanika no en” would be “kismet”…? It’s less portentous or lighter than “fate” or “destiny” and usually implies something good.

avatar John C. Briggs says:

I think it is interesting that there is a Japanese expression related to “the calm after the storm.” In America you often hear people talking about “the calm before the storm”. This can be taken quite literally, or figuratively. For example, I am at work a little early this morning and it is quiet. So I can say it is the calm before the storm, i.e. the storm of people that will soon arrive.
