MP-san,
Yes, “wa” is usually used by women.
- “Kirei da wa.” (female)
- “Kirei da na.” (male/female)

But, in Kansai dialect, men use it too!

in “getting off”, yoshi-san ga peter-san wo “tsutsunda”, because they are “intimate”. hahaha. i love your lessons even more.

Yes, you know, you can be talking or reponding to someone in your head like, say your mom told you to study hard and you are like, “Yes, yes, I will do study!” in your head, here, you are kind of annoyed but you can say 「はい、はい、べんきょうしますよ！」in your head.

It is true Michaelさん, my case is similar when I was studyng a lot of time I keep thinking in japanese after finish for a while, a mix of japanese and spanish, is really weird! The brain keep going and going

皆さん

Recently, I was watching the anime Millennium Actress and there is a scene where the main character runs after the train she would have liked to have caught saying to herself
‘行きます,行きます..’.

I suspect this use of the polite form is to do with the fact that in her mind she was stating her desire in front of an immaginary person in authority, who, maybe, was stopping her from reaching the train in time. Or perhaps it was a public declaration like when one says ‘頑張ります’ which is addressed to everyone within ear-reach.

Do you have any comment on this? Is my interpretation likely?

I think it is great when a language can have these subtle undertones (and evn more wonderful still when I can get them!)
