So depending on context, みんな could be translated as "us" or "us all" as you said. In 2), imagine you being an exchange student from the states. English being your first language you don't have to take the classes, but still you are in a position similar to the japanese studends, so you empathise with them and you set yourself in their situation when you speak about them. In such a case you can use kureru even though the recieving party isn't the first person.
