Can someone please explain why there is a で　in front of "プロジェクトが終わりました。" instead of に　as in 昨日にプロジェクトが終わりました。 Is there a lesson that covers this?

Cheers!

Great lesson once again. However, I'm still disappointed because I can't really work with the add-ons and extras provided with the informal conversation. There's no way we can copy the kanjis and work on them with Jedict or other Kanji dict and as there is no translation or romaji transcription, as a beginner, I guess I'm missing quite a lot.:???:

In the midst of the party celebrations here today, (hopefully setting a new high for comments)
I had an idea. I don’t know if it’ll take off but let’s give it a try.
The Japanese conversation threads in the forums are a bit daunting I think. (Well they are for me.)
So I was thinking for each beginner leson how about just ONE sentence from each of us as an example of what was in the lesson? Use a new vocabulary in some way or make up a sentence using the grammar point. Take what you’ve learnt for a spin but still keep your training wheels or L - plate.
I’ve started a thread here. And if people think it’s a good idea would start a new one for each lesson?

So I have a question sort of topic related: does anyone here play or has played golf?

I keep putting it off because I’m too young.
John Dyer says:
July 26th, 2006 at 6:39 am
wow Vicky, seems you’re very loved here.

And Golf is an ehhh sport for me. But it was still a very useful lesson

Also, welcome to the site Kawasaki.

Michaelさん、

I AM old enough to play golf, but not rich enough to play it in Japan. Plus, I decided years ago only to engage in sports that don’t cost money each time you do it.

Hard to find any free sports in Japan. There used to be basketball courts in Akihabara, but they cleared it out to make a parking structure.
Jason says:
July 26th, 2006 at 6:59 am
Basketball courts in Akihabara? Boy, talk about bad placement…
Daniel Beck says:
July 26th, 2006 at 7:02 am
Yeah, well now even those are gone. There’s nowhere to play without paying. Which is why my exercise is mostly limited to cycling.
Vicky says:
July 26th, 2006 at 7:22 am
Michael D. Cassidy-san, I was thinking about you!!! You read my mind.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR PM!!!
Michael D. Cassidy says:
July 26th, 2006 at 7:36 am
Cost and time. That’s why I run; though I do lift weights at a gym which costs money; cheaper than golf, clubs, lesson, tee time etc. Also I’m not sure there are enough endorphines in golf for me.

Liz I heard from from the Jpod101 rumor mill that you were 11; so I’m forbidden to talk to you.
Daniel Beck says:
July 26th, 2006 at 8:10 am
Michaelさん、

While the gym costs money, I think it costs less for a month than for a single round of golf, no? Here in Japan though, a month at a fitness center will run you near $100. Ugh. Can’t do that either (although I used to when I was single).
Vicky says:
July 26th, 2006 at 8:10 am
Michael D. Cassidy-san, Ijust missed you. I send PM though….would you check one more time please????

How many more to go??? It’s gonna be a long night…..
Daniel Beck says:
July 26th, 2006 at 8:42 am
Our Vickyちゃん、

It’s only 8:40 in the AM in Japan. There’s plenty of time left. Only 59 to go!
Vicky says:

ahh….Hi John-san, Daniel B-san is bugging me for 2 hours that I need to say something about your comment. Although I told him that I talked to you earlier. He is killing me with posting 100 comments today. Ah…don’t know why I started this today.

Hope more people can leave some comments after this. I got no energy to drive home and skip my lunch for these comment mission.

We all love Jppod. And, keep up with good work. Yeah 200 lessons will be great but I won’t go for 200 comments though.

Need to take some break…brb!

Daniel Beck-san,
Is there a break down of countries of JPOD listeners that you know of? I’d be interested to know that. I guess there are a number of foreigners in Japan who need to learn the language.

Happy 100th! Thanks for all your help with the beginner Japanese lessons, they have helped me out tremendously. I could not have gotten where I am today without your support. Thanks again, and good luck for the future!

Doing my part for the 100 goal….

Congrats on #100! Although maybe we should be popping the champagne for 101 (as in the podcast name)?

I agree, gyms are waaaayyy too expensive here in Japan. So I’ve started running. I’m up to a little over 4K every morning. Today was 5K. Maybe it’s time to try a marathon…

Vickyさん,

I have no idea what you are talking about. You better take a break.

Lizさん、

Don’t know about the breakdown. But, if people go over to my site and sign the guest book, maybe we can an idea.

Not so bad in the mornings. Actually, the heavy rains seemed to have taken a break for a bit. Ah, but the mold is never ending… it gets onto everything about now.

Hiii there,

Me and my wife swapna congratulate you all for the 100th episode of Beginners leson. We are following your podcast since day one and its really a great fun to be with all of you and learn a japanese language with you.

Hearty congratulations to all of you once again.

Daniel-san,

I’ve noticed some basketball courts a few times somewhere between Shinjuku and Harajuku right beside the Yamanote line. I’m pretty sure they are free to play on. There seem to be a couple homeless camps interspersed between them. I’ve been meaning to go take a look, but I don’t make it over to that area much.

Mina-san,

Thank you for all of the comments and congratulations! 200 is right around the corner Also thank you to all of those who wished me a happy birthday!
Daniel Beck says:

Premさん、

You have an interesting name. Where are you from? And your wife’s name is also interesting.

Lizさん、

There’s a break in the rain today. Even saw the sun. Had forgotten what it looked like. But the powers that be tell us it will rain for the rest of the month.

Nathanさん、

Yeah, I think I’ve seen some of those courts before. They didn’t exactly look promising. Plus, it would be more than a little out of my way. When I lived in Irvine (California), I could 100 meters (I mean, yards) in any direction and hit a basketball court, a beach volleyball court, a swimming pool, and a tennis court. Ah, those were the days.

Well, only 48 to go.

Am I late to the party? Omedetou gozaimas JP101 on hyaku beginner lesson! It’s been great listening to the podcasts, and I hope to listen to many more. Ganbatte JP101!

Quite the turnout - still have several hours to go, so plenty of time to get to 100 posts

kawasakiさん - welcome to the community! I’m sure you will enjoy your stay here. Posting on the message board and forum will be great way to practice your English!

Danielさん - sorry to hear about the continued rain. Hopefully the forecasters are a little off on their prediction.

I hope everyone had a great day! 47 posts to go!

Prem - Hey and welcome! I love that so many people on this site are all benefiting from the same resource. I think it would be real interesting to see how many users from different countries there are subscribed, visiting the site, etc.

Daniel - How long has it been raining and where are you located? I don’t get a ton of rain here, so I enjoy it when I get it.

おめでとうございます！

Johnさん - I know. This is worldwide party - never stops!
I imagine JP101 has statistics on the subscriber base at least, but I’m sure that’s not for public review.

Vickyさん - where are you? The party hasn’t ended yet - we still have 45 posts to go! No more break for you.

I hope for no rain tomorrow - want to play sports outside!

Okay, all the waiting…here I am again. We gotta make 100 comments today!!! We can do this right??? Hope I can sleep tonight.

R= I can't believe that the most famous person here at JP101 is just a Korean puberty of 16 years old  WOW I thought I was dealing with an old 30 -40 old woman! Sorry for tou too my little one!

Hi Nathan-san, surprised you stop by. You could bring some crew from over there though, eh? We can’t do this alone.

Btw, I noticed that lots of Japanese people play golf and tennis. These are the favorite sports to play in Japan?
John Dyer says:
July 26th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
Mark - Yeh, I’m sure they have subscriber information. They may not want to post numbers online, but I’m sure they could break it into percentage of listeners by country. That would be cool! I guess Frappr is similar to that, but I doubt most listeners post their names on there.

Vicky - I thought that baseball was quite popular there. At least, a few of my friends living over there go to quite a few minor league games.

This is great material. I have almost caught up with all the lessons. I have listened to all the beginner, most of the intermediate (these are hard and I have to listen multiple times), the survival phases, half way through the news, and then I will need to do the culture classes.
This has been the best learn-in-your-car series since Pimsleur. I was so bored of listening to word-lists in the car.

To go off topic (have we been on topic today?) I would like to recommend to great jazz CDs I bought for my birthday:

John Coltrane: The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings [I was 16 so didn’t see it]. Its expensive, 4 CDs, but absolutely wonderful; overwhelming; beautiful; soaring.

The Omer Avital Group: Asking No Permission: very very good. I love it when I find someone new and young; I buy too many dead people.
Daniel Beck says:
July 26th, 2006 at 9:35 pm

Just how “young” do you think those two are?

Where, o where is Yoshiさん?
Michael D. Cassidy says:
July 26th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Vicky is 16; Liz 13.
That should get a response out of them.

This is my last day at work; off on vacation for 15 days.
I wanted to do 3 weeks but my wife couldn’t take the last week off, someone at her company got fired and she needs to be back.

So in fact I will not be posting after today until about August 14th. I’ll have my iPod so I’ll listen toi lessons; I was falling behind anyway so this will give me a chance to consolidate and go after the informal and intermediate lessons.

And if people think it’s a good idea would start a new one for each lesson?
http://www.japanesepod101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=443

Mina-san,

Mark - Yeh, I’m sure they have subscriber information. They may not want to post numbers online, but I’m sure they could break it into percentage of listeners by country. That would be cool! I guess Frappr is similar to that, but I doubt most listeners post their names on there.

Michael D. Cassidyさん: I’ve played golf a couple of times, does that count? My friend used to work at a golf court, so we got to borrow clubs for free after hours
おめでとう　JapanesePOD101
This is great material. I have almost caught up with all the lessons. I have listened to all the beginner, most of the intermediate (these are hard and I have to listen multiple times), the survival phases, half way through the news, and then I will need to do the culture classes.
This has been the best learn-in-your-car series since Pimsleur. I was so bored of listening to word-lists in the car.
Mina-san,

I was going to wait and post the 100th comment but I can’t hold out anymore Let me first thank our entire community for all the comments, support, and loyalty. Without you guys and gals none of this would ever be possible. Next, let me thank all my incredible and talented co-workers and friends at JapanesePod101.com. It is an absolute honor to work with a team so dedicated, passionate, and determined.

As a side note, for those interested, we’ve added Torrent files for Beginner Lessons 81-100 (including the informal tracks) in our Download Center.

Peace,

So are all you sitting around your computers waiting to post the 100TH??

Well if no one posts you’ll be sitting there a long long time!

I’d like to thank everyone at JP100 for the time and effort in making these lessons. Its an amazing effort; I hope enough of us are paying to so you guys can buy a beer at the end of the week on us.
Michael D. Cassidy says:
If we do not get to 100 it will be Vicky’s fault for going to sleep!

She and Liz are young and should have easily been able to stay up 36-48 hour without sleep. Can we set it up so that we get to 99 and let Vicky post the 100th??? Hard though do-able.

Michaelさん、

Funny thing - today in the shower I saw the word "usage" on a shampoo bottle and for several seconds I wondered why there was Japanese on there.
