I think Peter-san and Nathan-san are gone. We haven’t hear from them for couple of days. They forgot about us? Getting worried here.
Beside, what’s up with bi-weekly thing????

The new feature in the Learning Center is very nice!
Beyond nice, it’s great!!!
Everyone should try this! Got the Learning Center. Go to Lesson Quizzes. Click on Vocabulary Questions to see the map, hear the audio (as many times as you need to
) and answer the questions!!

Vicky-san,
Sorry, but you are wrong! Listen to the survival phrases to hear Peter-san and, wahoo!!, Sakura-san is back today!! Great lesson.
I have a question: I have some very good friends in Japan who have all been to the U.S. many times. We always speak English together and I call them by their first names. But, if I learn a little Japanese
should I call them “so and so san”?
Monday at 10:42 pm
Liz-san: If they are very good friends, definitely not! Using polite japanese in the wrong situation can create distance, and hurt relationships (one of the harder things to master with japanese is to judge when to use what kind of language). If your friends have nicknames, I would probably stick to that. Else go with 呼び捨て(yobisute, the term for just calling someone by name without added “san” and similar suffixes)

Liz-san, you found it!!!
This is one of my favorite features! I also recommend that everyone check this out. Jonas made a really nice map!
Jonas, great job with the map and PDF as always.

Peter-san,
Is there any news on other payment options for the subscription to Jpod 101? I am very leary of Pay Pal due to some past experience, but am hoping you guys will find a way to use cc numbers in near future.
BTW - thank you for the directions lesson. Great stuff. I have also found some videos that go into some detail too.
I know I have been away from Jpod 101 for a while, but nto for lack of interest. I have been just working very hard. I am hoping that things are slowing down a bit so I can get caught up.

Oh, and kudos to JP101 for giving in to the honorific campaign.
I’d like to thank Jason for helping make this happen.
Hmm……what should we campaign for next.

Jonas-san,
Thank you for your answer about the use of “san”. You said using “san” among very, very good friends would be inappropriate and would create a sense of distance.
When I listen to JPOD podcasts, I’m a little confused. Peter-san has co-workers, Yoshi-san, Take-san, Natsuko-san, but, as with us Americans, he wants to leap into instant friendship. That’s the way we are
Could you explain the relationship between Peter-san and his jpod colleagues and why should he say “san” to them? Thanks.

If we want to learn to write in Japaneses, which one should we have to focus on to. Should we focus on HIRAGANA, KATAKANA or KANJI …..
Tuesday at 3:09 pm
Well.. Hiragana or Katakana. Not Kanji at the beginning.
I would recommend that you start with learning Hiragana first. Japanese kids star with Hiragana too.
However it’s also true that some Engish-speaking people start studying from Katakana since English speaking people are familiar with Katakana. (The pronounciation of True English word and Japanese-adopted English word are so different though)
You can learn and practice kanji in our learning center.
