Hey everyone,
Thanks again for everything, it’s so nice to follow along with the lessons and news every day. I am learning so much form you.

Sunday at 7:39 am
Haha… I’m listening now, and the part where Peter-san says to move on after mentioning Hatsumi-san’s situation made me laugh so loud, I think I woke up all of my roommates
Hatsumi-san,
So sad to see you go
Please come back if you can!! We’ll be waiting
I’m excited to hear more from Takase-san, as well!!
I’m writing this as I listen
Peter-san, you’re right. You say the wrong thing to me and you’ll see parts of Japan you never knew existed
Just kidding, but thanks so much once again for the very nice mention. Don’t be surprised when I really do show up (please have a dry pair of clothes prepared)
Sakura-san, Hatsumi-san!! You have to see MacGuyver!
Hatsumi-san, again, sad to see you go. I hope you really can post every now and then while we await your return
As Seth-san said - thanks so much to all of the JP101 crew!!
Sunday at 7:52 am
セツさん、こちらこそ!Thanks for listening and posting! Your participation is truly appreciated! Please keep the posts coming.
Nathan-san, again, we can’t thank you enough!
The links you put together were awesome, and we’re going to let everyone know about it! That is right after I get done looking through them all!
We really appreciate your efforts!

But as we said, hopefully she’ll be back!
Really great to read that you got a good laugh out of that. That section almost was relegated to the editting room floor. Jonas-san had a say in bringing it back, and in the end, we decided to go with it! Your reaction has made it all worthwhile!
Tomorrow will be Hatsumi’s last appearance.
Sunday at 8:14 am
Peter-san,
Just reading your reply, I had to listen to that part again. It’s still just as funny
Maybe we just have the same sense of humor
Good idea about checking the links… you never know what I’ve put in there
But seriously, let me know if there’s anything you would like added or removed. I can send you the password as well if you’d like.
Yes, Hatsumi-san, come back soon! At least we have your beautiful singing to tide us over until then
Sunday at 8:46 am
Hitsumi’s leaving? Noooooo! (T_T)
Please come back soon!
Sunday at 9:15 am
Oops, I meant to say Hatsumi. ごめん (^^;)
Sunday at 9:28 am
Nathan-san, you overestimate me!
I meant the line in the context of…I need to read and study them first! for myself!
I trust your judgement on content!
Anything that pops up on the message board feel free to add!
Sunday at 10:05 am
I just started listening. I can’t tell you how awesome this lessons are (at least not in japanese yet. hopefully soon!)
Plus, very funny to listen to.

Sunday at 10:32 am
You guys have great chemistry. I’m constantly laughing out loud when I listen to the show in the car. It’s too bad that Hatsumi’s leaving. I hope that she’ll stay active on the comments, though.
Anyway, I love the lesson shows more, but I always like listening to the news shows as well, because it’s just fun to hear the banter! Keep it up
Sunday at 12:32 pm
Hey, guys!
First of all, it’s really said that Hatsumi’s leaving. I (and many others, except me) am going to be very sad and I (and many others, except me) will be hoping that she will return soon enough. Why must she go to Tokushima, anyway? Family?
Also, thank you for mentioning me
That’s really flattering…
You know, I should come sometime to Japan once again… After I came back from Germany, my German was improved by a lot!!! I think it will be so in Japanese as well…. Too bad I first have to take care of my Chinese. Very, very hard!!! I guess if it was easy, it wouldn’t be such an important language to know and everyone would be able to conquer it… After that, maybe I’ll try to go to China, if time and money allows it (or go once again to Germany, to visit my dear friend!).
Anyway, great pods and keep up the good work!
We’ll miss you very much, Hatsumi!!!
Sunday at 12:32 pm
Sorry to see you leave Hatsumi-chan. I hope everything is ok. I look forward to your return.
Mmmmmm! I have never seen MacGuyver either
Thanks for the mentiom again:-) Not sure if my posts are great…I think Nathan-san deserves all the credit. But thanks very much
Did Sakura-san stop laughing before going home?
And Peter-san, the way you said move on after Hatsumi-chan’s announcement was funny. It’s a good job you guys are all good friends

Nathan-san.
Before I forget. Your website with all the links, is great. Really great. And thanks for adding my site…I did not realise that is why you wanted to update the link…I feel honoured. Thank you
Steve
Sunday at 1:15 pm
Steve-san,
They already give me too much credit. It’s the least I can do in return for their hard work! And I’m glad you like the bookmarks site… it’s actually thanks to Rhonda-san, since it was her idea. Your site definitely deserves a spot there! And I asked for my own personal bookmarks, as well
Sunday at 1:27 pm
Also, I just checked the PDF out of curiousty, and there are two little mistakes. The romaji for なまえ is “name”, and the “sensu ga nai” hiragana swaps the particle は in instead. Neither are a big deal, but I thought I would point it out in case you wanted to fix it
Sunday at 1:50 pm
I think that your program is AWESOME! I found it while surfing my iTunes Music Store and I listened to one of the Prodcasts and now I’m addicted lol. Thank you so much I now realized how much Japanese I never learned and I’ve been learning for 2 years. Thank you so much. よろしくおねがいします。
Sunday at 1:55 pm
hey dudes.
Bye Hatsumi! I will miss your KAWAII voice!
Peter, moving on from hatsumi so unceremoniously was hilarious. I was actually wondering about something relevant.. In new zealand, once you really like someone, a lot of humour comes from being cheeky to them
“having them on” as we say. Is it the same thing in Japan? It seems like an almost universal human trait
and tobi = jumping? oh man oh man.
“jay” is boring, and I was thinking “man I want a cool nickname”.
I have been called monkey a lot because I jump around all over the place and have a lot of energy (yes I’m 25
). I also took up gymnastics in the last few years so I like doing flips and things. would tobisaru be an appropriate name? or sarutobi? Hmm.. although for nicknames its probably best to get them given to you
I grew up on macguyver. I love that guy! I even had a mullet like him when I was little
Murdoch just wouldn’t die!
nathan-san, where is the link page you mentioned?
over and out.
Sunday at 1:57 pm
Isn’t the romaji for 名前 simply “namae”?
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few weeks now, since somebody posted it on my university’s internal Japanese Studies blog. It’s a great addition to what I see in class, and I especially enjoy your Japanese Culture Classes. Keep up the good work. (^-^)
Sunday at 2:27 pm
Brandon-san,
Welcome to the addiction
Jay-san,
Tobisaru is actually a word that means to fly away (飛び去る). You could use the kanji 飛猿 with the pronunciation とびざる (tobizaru) instead… that might work
I watched MacGuyver when I was little, too. We’re around the same age
Speaking of gymnastics, I’ve always wanted to give that a try. Have you ever heard of Le Parkour? Here’s the link to the bookmarks (just a collection of what’s been posted here):
http://del.icio.us/JapanesePod101
Tijl-san,
Welcome! Yes, the romaji is namae, but it was written “name” in the PDF. I guess I wasn’t really clear on that. That must be nice to have a blog for the students!
Sunday at 2:34 pm
nathan-san, thanks for the info and link
and le parkour? oh yes I have heard of it! In fact I started an NZ “faction” of it haha. this was about 4 years ago though and it only lasted about half a summer
but yes I was into that too.
Sunday at 2:37 pm
Nathan-san, here is a pic of me doing a bit of parkour!
http://monkeyjay.webfroot.co.nz/monkeyjay_spideystall.jpg
Sunday at 4:07 pm
Jay-san,
Awesome picture! So did you start that before you got into gymnastics? Do you do any martial arts?
Sunday at 4:24 pm
haha I always feel a little guilty derailing these comments, but I started parkour about a year after i started adult gymnastics classes, and I have TRIED various martial arts but could never get motivated enough to stay
you?
Sunday at 6:57 pm
Hmmm, yeah… well, sorry to anyone who cares
That’s cool… so you’ve actually been doing gymnastics for about 5 years? Hmmm… I’ve done Taijiquan off and on for a while, and a bit of Aikido. I really enjoy them both a lot, but Taijiquan is my favorite. Probably a large part has to do with the philosophy of the arts. I’d like to try Xingyiquan. I’ve never tried an external art, though.
Sunday at 7:04 pm
yeah I do like the philosophy side of it too ( I am not religious so enjoy different ideas form different philosophies). And yes I have been doing gymnastics ON and OFF for about 5 years.. mainly off .. I have probably done the equivalent of a year
but now i have a job I want to get back into it
it’s a great bunch of people!
sorry jpod commenters
Sunday at 9:20 pm
Peter-san,
Just wanted to say thanks again for those links on properly writing kudasai. I mentioned you here
http://www.japanesejapanese.com/index.php/2006/02/27/the-proper-way-to-please/
Jay-san,
Haha, we have so much in common. Apparently it even spans into not being able to stick with things very often
Hopefully I’ll get back to practicing Taijiquan soon, and perhaps find a chance to do some gymnastics
Monday at 1:41 am
Hey everyone, I just wanted to say ありがとうございます to you too for mentioning me!
I also loved the way you moved from Hatsumi to other news, and I hope she took it the right way! It was hillarious.
As always I thought it was a great week for lessons, although I again had to cram a couple of them in mid-week, but they’re always great, and seriously… what’re you guys taking before you start recording? Either way your laughter is infectious!

Oh God, my Japanese is very bad. Anyway, I’m a new listener and I’m so sad that Hatsumi is leaving and I don’t even get to know her! I really love her kawaii voice.
FYI: I’m Indonesian and live in Singapore to study. I learned Japanese a while a go just before I went to Singapore and now I hardly remember anything that I’ve learned. I’m totally katagana blind and I have a hard time reading hiragana by now!
My friends are anime & manga–some are tokosatsu (sp?) freak so they know quiet a lot of Japanese and I can guarantee you they would listen to your podcast if they know that you’re exist!
ps: If I’m posting on the wrong section feel free to scold me

Hey Peter-san and Sakura-san

See you folks
Great podcats! I have been pretty busy these days
I am always happy when I am listening to the podcasts, and also improving a lot. Too sad great member is leaving
I gotta go because my boss is already yelling at me because I am not using my computer
Monday at 12:22 pm
Ayu-san,
Apa kabar? Welcome to the community! I’ll make a couple corrections, if you don’t mind. These are just a bit off: “hajimemashite”, “juu roku sai”, “gakusei”, “douzo”. You’re not doing bad at all, keep up the good work!
Adam-san,
Welcome! Surprising people like that is the best, isn’t it? Make sure you let us know how it unfolds!
Steve-san,
That was a cool little video! I went to a Lunar New Year celebration recently and it had some similar traditional dances. I really enjoy that kind of thing, so thanks for sharing
Gevorg-san,
I think we all liked Hatsumi-san
We’ll just have to hope to see her back soon!
Marcos-san,
Stay out of trouble!
Monday at 3:14 pm
thats true Nathan-san
Monday at 4:43 pm
Really looking forward to that ramen-episode, guys! Let me know if I can help out. I’m a photographer and would love an excuse to take photos at a ramen-ya
In fact, if you have any other projects that require photos taken in or around Tokyo, I’d be glad to lend a hand (I live on the Seibu-sen). The timing would be good - right now I’m trying to find some new photographic projects.
Keep up the good work!
Monday at 7:38 pm
It is very funny how some “American humor” doesn’t quite translate. I was re-listening to one of the lessons (the SP #10), where Peter-san said “B and D.” It didn’t quite translate into Japanese. . . although I couldn’t help but laugh out loud . . . . at work. . . . which made everyone look at me funny. Hehe. ^-^
We love you, Hatsumi-san!
Monday at 8:49 pm
どもありがとございました for mentioning my name and my little anecdote! でも… my sister was somewhat disapointed that you didn’t mention that I introduced her to the Podcast as well.
I was sort of surprised that my name was pronounced correctly. It’s kind of weird hearing my name in the podcast itself.
Ohh, I hope all is well with you Hatsumi. All the best and come back soon! Don’t be a stranger! ^_^X じゃまたあしたね
Tuesday at 4:21 am
Nathan-san: Kabar baik
thanks for the correction
Tuesday at 4:56 am
Ayu-san,

Tuesday at 7:33 am
This is sooo spooky, Nathan-san インドネシア語を話すか。
Not sure about the Japanese though, I used http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr

But I didn’t mean to cheat , I was trying to find the Japanese romaji translation because I think I know what the sentence is but I don’t quite remember it
anyway, this is what I remember : anata wa Indonesia o hanasimasuka
Tuesday at 8:06 am
Thanks for the hard work. Love to get the new lessons really feel like I’ve finally get the nerve to talk to the girl at the manga shop in japanese! Thanks guys!
Tuesday at 12:29 pm
Ayu-san,
It is close enough to understand. All you left out of the romaji was the “go” after Indoneshia. In the first, you wouldn’t normally use か after the informal verb like that. To answer your question… いいえ、話しません (iie, hanashimasen).
I’m just sneaky is all
John-san,
Go for it!

Hatsumi-san,
I’m so glad you could post and say hello! It’s okay if you can’t post often, but the fact that you’ve still made time to drop in and say hi makes us all happy, I’m sure
I hope things are going well for you and continue to do so!
Monday at 4:49 pm
Hey, Peter!
I’m a Mac User, too! Macs rule! Anyway, I was listening to your podcast of March 5 (News) and I was amazed to hear you say that you could push the center of the click whee on an iPod and the text of the show would come up. I tried it and it worked! I was particularly surprised that this worked because I have a 2nd generation iPod. This is really great and I can save paper from printing out the .pdf files! You guys are doing a wonderful, creative job!
I live near Chicago and I’m trying to learn Japanese so your show is a great help to me! Doomo!
Monday at 4:51 pm
Dear Sakura,
Your voice is so beautiful! I have a friend from India and your accent is quite like hers! Did you ever live in India? Your English is excellent! If only we English speakers could speak Japanese half as well!
from Chicago…
Monday at 4:39 am
In the same year as McGyver started I was born and I watched it all the time. Therefore there is no excuse of age not knowing
I especially love the Simpsons Episode where Richard Dean Anderson finally gets an Cameo. Hilarious!
