So if you have some time, please help us out with an itunes review or an email and a vote on podcast alley. Thank you again, as it is you guys that make Japanesepod101.com what it is! About itunes top 100 podcasts ranking - Last week we were featured by Apple’s itunes music store, and because of that we actually entered the top 100 podcasts in the US, UK and Canadian itunes music store. To see Japanesepod101.com in front of Washington Post videocasts last Wednesday was a testament to the incredible students of the language, you guys, and the popularity of this fascinating language! Although we have since ebbed out of the top 100, we would like to thank everybody for making that possible.
Hontou ni arigatou gozaimasu!

Today’s answer is Kanazawa・かなざわ・金沢 −
Capital of Ishikawa Prefecture (map coming soon!) , is located between the Japan Alps and the Sea of Japan, located to the west of Honshu (the main island). Know for its sake and for its traditional cuisine. Has anyone been here?

さくらさん、頼んでくれてありがとう。ぼくは幸せです。

Sorry if 頼む is not the right word. I meant to say “mention” or “shout-out.”

Hello there guys!
You dont know how much you guys are helping me with my Japanese. I must say that your site is the best site I have seen on the net. Sakura has a pretty nice voice and a wonderful Japanese. I would appreciate if you could say my name on your show ( I am your number fan guys :-) ).
I think it would be pretty helpful if we could learn the names of all countries, sometimes I dont know how to say the name of my country when someone askes me. Peter, you are also helping me with your English. Thank you very much, Peter. I have been studying English really long and through English I could also learn other languages. You and Sakura speak English which is pretty clear and awsome to understand.
You teach Japanese in a way thats pretty easy because you guys are so happy and that makes happy too :-) . Here in Brazil we have so many people from Japan and I really love Japan. Well, we are in the year of the World Cup and I am going to cheer for Japan this time if you guys say my name ( :-) :-D ). Thanks Peter and Sakura and all the guys at Japanesepod101 for all your hard work.
You guys are always with me when I turn on my computer to study Nihongo. I dont feel alone any more thanks to you guys. Keep up the good work!!! Lets give it up for Sakura and Peter!!! Jaa mata ne

My name is Marcos Ferreira
I live in Itapetininga, Brazil.

Scott-san, 素敵なコメントをありがとうございます  Actually, there seems to be no exact word for “shout-out” in Japanese, but I guess a close one would be something like this: 名前を呼ぶ(名前を呼んでくれて).これからもどうぞ宜しくお願いします! Marcos-san, thank you for posting from practically the other side of the planet! It’s amazing to know that we have a listener in Brazil. ありがとうございます。

avatar Peter says:

Scott-san thanks for posting! Please keep them coming!
Marcos-san! Thank you for the awesome post and email! We sent one back, please keep the posts and emails coming!! Yoroshiku!

Peter

Hey guys,

I listen to your podcast daily, and thoroughly enjoy it. I’ve been learning Japanese for a few years now through school, and your show has been excellent revision for things I haven’t understood when we did them, or have forgotten over the years.
I hope the podcast continues for a long time, I know it’s helping myself and alot of other people around the world, thanks alot!

Gary,
Australia.

avatar Peter says:

Gary-san,

Thank you for your sugoi post and for listening. Peter here, and actually I know the feeling! I am actually relearning a lot of stuff while doing this, and it is quite fun! We plan on introducing a lot more stuff, so please keep listening!
Thank you again for the post! Please keep them coming.

avatar Sakura says:

Gary-san, ありがとうございます  これからも役に立つ内容をお届けできるよう、がんばります。

Kanazawa is a wonderful place to visit. I vividly remember the black tile roofs and the fabulous park and gardens - a must for any visitor. If I remember correctly the first fountain in Japan is in the park.
Keep up the wonderful lessons - I look forward to them every day.

Do you still read reviews this far back, I wonder? I discovered this website the day before yesterday, and I am trying my very best to catch up (wish me luck)! I have been self teaching Japanese for years (as there is no Japanese class offered at my highschool), and I plan to major in it in college this coming year. Your podcasts have already been immensely helpful in my endeavors, in fact, they are probably the most helpful learning aid that I have managed to stumble across yet. Doumo Arigato Gozaimasu, for creating japanesepod101.com! I was actually planning to wait until I was caught up to review, but when I saw that no reviewers had posted (at least not here anyhow) the response to your inquery on the subject of “ossu”, I was overtaken with an irrepresable urge to review right at this very moment. So, if you haven’t already found out from some other source, ossu is slang for good morning. It is the first and last part of ohayo gozaimasu. So now you know, if you didn’t already. Hopefully I was helpful, or perhaps somewhat entertaining. Hopefully you will at least recieve my review, as it is rather far back here. Even if you don’t find it until it ten years from now, and it’s stale and moldy, daijoubu desu yo (because Jamie will hopefully have caught up by then anyway)!
Ja Ne,
Jamie

avatar Peter says:

Jamie-san, thank your for the post! Of course we check them! Also check out the blog for more on Ossu.
よろしくおねがいします!

Jamie-san, I’m wondering if anyone will see this comment so late in the game, but I too recently discovered this site. It was a little over a week ago and, after going through the seven day free trial, I subscribed. I can’t describe how helpful this site has been to me. There are no Japanese classes at the college I attend and learning Japanese has always been a dream of mine. JapanesePod101.com has started me on my journey and I’m so very excited to learn more.

I was recently eating with a friend who knows Japanese and he asked me, “Sore wa oishii desu ka?” and when I responded, “Hai, kore wa totemo oishii desu” he almost fell off his chair. I never told him I had started learning Japanese. He likes to speak it around me just to show off, but I definitely got him that time!

I thought you guys would like that story and I know I’ll have more soon! Thanks again everyone here at JapanesePod101.com! I’ve never enjoyed a website as much as this one! よろしくおねがいします

avatar Sølvi says:

Ernieさん、loved your story :D I wonder what would happen if my friends started learning Japanese and suddenly understood what I was saying… :P I think the word I say the most is うるさい, with a big smile, of course ;)

avatar kinan says:

おす(osu) comes from the first and last syllables of おはようございます(ohayou gozaimasu) but doesn’t necessarily need to mean good morning.
