I’m am the first commenter!!
I used it today. I baked panncakes. And I used these words. And my mother looked at me like I was crazy. Yes I am! But even weirder then normal!!
And it hear 2 of them in naruto.
its so great
its not like other lessons i have tried at the net and it is easy to understand so i really like it
Man, thanks you guys! Your lessons are awesome. They’re easy enough for even me to understand. I’ve been using these phrases as often as possible. This really helps.
I love the audio lessons that I have downloaded off of ITunes. I have listened to the first couple of lessons several times. This is exactly what I have been looking for to take with me while I am in the car. I also signed up for the seven day free trial, but I am not as impressed with the interactivity of the website. I do not like PDF files, they are awkward and I think that there could be more of the flashcards and quizes. I am going to be trying out several different lessons, and I may change my opinion though.
Joshuaさん,
Welcome to JPOD.
These PODcasts are probably the best (or second best, consider Pimsleur as well) material that you can listen to in your car.
Of course there are limitations to what can be done with audio, eventually you need to see the material too. By reviewing the PDF that goes along with each lesson, I think you can get a lot more out of the material. Well, at least I know I do.
Regarding your comments about the quizzes and flashcards, I will let the JPOD staff respond.
Please feel free to post if you have any questions about Japanese. That is one of the great things about JPOD, the community. You can proabably get some people to help suggest other study materials.

Wow, I am very impressed with this podcast! This is by far the easiest Japanese podcast to listen to when you are on the go. Now all I need is to find the time to listen to it.
Arigatou gozaimasu!
Hey,
I love JPod. It’s so much easier to listen to than the usual dry educational texts I’ve found in the library. Great job!
I did have a question though. In this episode, Peter says something like “we have introduced over 12 speakers to date.” This leads me to believe that Eat, Drink & Be Merry isn’t the first episode.
Can anyone clarify this for me, please?
Thanks, and keep up the amazing work.
uhhh, its a bit confusing on how i download the earlier episodes for this podcast, when theyre not on itunes? this podcast taught em a lot with only one episode, but is it possible to download the earlier posts?
I love you guys. I’m working my way through the newbie/beginner freebie stuff to supplement my Rosetta Stone. I’m hopefully going to be teaching in Japan early 2008. When I’m about 6 months out, I’m going to purchase a package and gun it until my brain explodes.
Keep it up.
I’m not quite sure what David is talking about. The introductions are wonderful and give me quite a laugh before I get right into the lesson itself.
I would like to say that I am very thankful for these excellent lessons. They are great for improving ones’ Japanese speech; they’re helping me beyond a doubt. I am majoring in Japanese next year when I go to University, so it is excellent to use the beginner lessons as a refresher and the intermediate increase my knowledge of the language. Hopefully, I will be back in Japan in a few years (I went two summers ago and loved it). Please continue with lessons. Though it will take me ages to catch up, I am glad that everyone involved with Japanesepod101 has taken such time out of their day to create something to help those learning the language.
ありがとうございますみんなさん!
Great lessons!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE this site more than my Japanese textbook! I just wish it was all free or a one-time fee…lol.
I hear the word revolutionary so undeservingly used nowadays, but Japanese101 is TRULY revolutionary!
Its so nice of you to make usable parts this service free to people who cant pay for it. You should promote a Webby Awards link on your site so your users can show you their appreciation.
Thank you, koneecheewa, i’ll keep listening to these and learning japanese.
Hello, I´m from germany and this ist nearly what I have looked for! Naturally I want to listen japanesepod101 in german, sadly there is no good Japanese learning material for germans.
But in spite of this I like the japanesepod101 courses
because of many reasons. But I am a little confused
in which order I should follow the different courses, blogs, videos and so on, any sugestions?
犬図化さん、
Try starting with the Newbie + Beginner Lessons. I find that the most recent newbie lessons are actually more difficult than the older beginner lessons. When you want a break from learning, listen to the News. Finally, you can learn some survival phrases in just about any order, as they don’t necessarily build on each other.
If you want to watch the videos, just work them in, in the chronological order that they appear. For example, Video #1 was published on the same day as Beginner lesson #7, so just watch it following Beginner lesson #7.
Good Luck + 頑張って下さい!
Ah, this is excellent. These lessons are much better than the lessons that I’ve been doing myself on the net. I am glad to see how each lesson has notes for reference. I also liked how a little humor is speckled into the lesson, it makes it more enjoyable. Thanks for providing such a great way to learn Japanese to the public!
this is great!
These are wonderful lessons, thank you so much. I’ve just finished the ‘Basic Japanese’ set from Pimsleur and found that JapanesePod101 is so full of energy and interesting, compared to the straight ahead Pimsleur. Thanks for such an invigorating and refreshing way to learn Japanese!
OMG, great lesson!
I’m italian, but i speak english quite well, so i understand the whole thing.. more or less
I already kwew a couple of words like itadakimasu (and it’s probably written bad XD haha anyway..i knew the meaning). I heard them watching 1 Litre of tears on youtube *_*… anyway, this is helping a lot, thanks! I mean.. arigatou gozaimasu
こんばんはみなーさん!
I love the podcasts. I have tried and tried to find the same thing else where for less or no money at all (im cheap lol)…lets just say it didnt go over very well lol
I was here before, and the fee turned me away that time. I’ve come back, with a lil more knowledge of japanese (not by much lol) and i feel i can follow along better. I signed up for the 7 day free trial, the PDF’s arent anything special, but they do help, visual aid is always good =D
Now, I signed up for one month basic, ima try that, and maybe next month try premium (lack of funds this month lol). Maybe in my trial i just didnt get a chance to really see alot of stuff, but I was hoping to see more visuals. I dont know what i’m expecting, looking for..im a beginner, but everywhere i go to learn this, somethings missing. I guess its my lack of willing to spend money? lol
good find, takes some getting used to, stick around long enough for forums to become a tool as well…they’ve helped me alot just in my first night on them!!
ありがとうございます!!
thanks! ![]()
the recent PDF’s (from the last six months or so) have gotten really detailed grammar point write ups, so i recommend checking out some of those lesson notes!
Also, if you’re a newbie, i recommend Naomi-sensei’s Newbie series which is in progress now!
the first episode is here:

みんなさん おはようございます。
(minnasan ohayougozaimasu)Hello Everyone
にほんごはとてもすごいですよ。
(nihongo wa totemo sugoi desu yo!) Japanese is very cool.
まいにちにほんごをべんきょうします。
(mai nichi nihongo o benkyoushimasu!) Study Japanese everyday!
がんばってね。(gambatte) Be persistant!
I hope my hiragana, romanji and english came out correct, but anyways, these lessons are great and for me the next best thing to having worked in a Japanese owned and run restaurant for the last 4 years. The best way to practice is with a native speaker. Finding a Japanese friend can be as easy as making a trip to your local Japanese grocery store or joining your local chapter of the Japan America Society, if you live in the US. Or, as in my case, you can just work for a Japanese restaurant, but beware not all Japanese restaurants and sushi bars are run by Nihonjin, so ask around.
Jpod101 is the coolest website to start learning and to really use what you learn! The Japanese language spoken here is modern everyday Japanese taught with both formal and informal ways of saying things. Being just barely an intermediate level speaker, I love to refresh my memory and get new insight on the things I’ve already learned as well as learn new concepts and words.
yeah i heard a couple of these words in anime, especailly one piece there was this pun on the word gochisosama, having to do with somebody who died i don’t remember but it was funny,
but i liked this i started japanese over a year ago but this time i’m going to go at my own pace and be constinent, i liked how they did the lesson can’t wait to listen to more xD
Jpod101 is the coolest website to start learning and to really use what I learn!

Hello! Just wanted to mention, I think there’s a typo in the main lesson PDF. Under the description of “desu”, it states:
“It may be used after nouns, adjectives and verbs in their plain *negative* form.”
On the grammar page for this lesson, it states:
“It may be used after nouns, i-adjectives and verbs in their plain form.”
It then shows that both present negative and past negative forms are “De(wa)”. I’ve hardly started with this program yet, so I may be wrong (please let me know if I am) but I think the “plain negative form” in the PDF is incorrect.
Also, so far I love the program! Thanks so much for making it!
i already used this for one day and can speak fluently and i cuss my mom out all the time and she thinks im weird yead for me KIDS VOTE FOR OBAMA
Very good lesson,
i have used many books over the last months to get me started (i am self teaching myself) and these lessons are great to get what you can not out of a book! The listening and speaking is one of the msot important parts of survival in Japan!
SUGOI DESU YO!!!
Gareth-san,
>> The listening and speaking is one of the msot important parts of survival in Japan!

Glad to see you are enjoying the lessons. Keep at it!
