The best way to practice is with a native speaker. Finding a Japanese friend can be as easy as making a trip to your local Japanese grocery store or joining your local chapter of the Japan America Society, if you live in the US. Or, as in my case, you can just work for a Japanese restaurant, but beware not all Japanese restaurants and sushi bars are run by Nihonjin, so ask around.
